Why not Purke?

That is who I would have taken there as OAK. I just don't think Minor is more than end of first round talent right now. That or Tim Wheeler, OAK is a small ball kind of team and a fast CF that makes good contact and steals bases would be a good pick for them.

Beane may very well have gone Minor... who may turn out to be a very solid ML starter. He'd be cheaper than many others, that's true.

Yes, he isn't asking for something crazy like Strasburg, aside from the first 10 picks you usually don't see crazy demands. The guys that will drop for signing issues will document one way or the other that it is going to take a lot to sign them, I haven't heard anything like that from him. Besides, what is his leverage? There could be 4 better HS arms in this draft.

I do not think the A's would pay for Purke. He has a fairly strong commitment to TCU.

Good question. I don't know. It seems like many of the high school guys are being over drafted this year, so I was assuming something close to slot could get him. I could clearly be wrong though.

I was down to Purke and White when you picked. I personally would have chosen Purke (for Texas) but I think they'll go with the college pitcher. Their time is coming soon.
