I'm actually thinking that Jones might not just be hot. To me it really looks like he's figuring things out and playing at the level that we were hoping he would be at. I hope I didn't just jinx him, but I think he might have just turned the corner.

An hour before tonight's game he tweeted this:

Get back at it tonight. Stay short and to the ball. And see what happens after that

By your definition, Tony Bautista should have been the Orioles ASG representative the years (like 2003 when he had 26 HR and 99 RBIs) he was with the ballclub.... despite being the worst player to have played the game in years!

Actually, I believe he was the O's rep. one season.:laughlol:

I'm with you.

My original point was that we're doing all this arguing over what is essentially a "pity vote", since we can't get our own players voted in.

Agreed. Jones looks really good at the plate right now. He's not out in front on breaking balls, and is staying back. His swing looks shorter, which I guess helps him wait on breaking balls and he's still catching up with fastballs. This is what I was wanting to see from him all season.

Jones is hitting the ball harder and that's great..I am glad to see the power there.

But he only has 10 doubles...He has only walked 9 times...His K:BB ratio is 7:1.

So, while its nice to see the HR power there, he needs to show a lot more for me to say he is turning around.

What we need to see is SUSTAINABLE success...Not success in short stints. Once we see that, then we can declare that he is turning the corner.

Turning the corner doesn't mean you have a hot few weeks.

Of course! I'm :D that AJ is hitting now.

I hope he wins as many awards/recognitions as possible, I just think it's funny how these things play out. 4 weeks ago AJ isn't even in the AS discussion, and now it looks like he'll be our rep.

But a hot few weeks is the START of turning the corner. Jones hasn't been walking, but he has become more patient at the plate. He isn't chasing as much as he was and it is noticeable.

He is still swinging, but he is getting hits and his power is coming back

Not if his next few weeks are cold.

Again, once the SUSTAINABLE success is there, he will have turned the corner.

He has got to take more walks, swing at better pitches, recognize pitches in general and not be so all or nothing.

He's on pace for 26 homers. I like that pace.:) Much more All-Star like than any of out other outfielders (or players for that matter).

I hope you realize that he doesn't have to be a Markakis type hitter to have success in this league.

      The only reason Ort is still on the 40 man roster is that they have not needed his spot yet.   And with 38 on the 40 man roster that may not be the reason he is DFA.   He will probably go to make room for Held, McGough or Richmond.

      This is no big deal ….He has a right to have an opinion. I believe Holiday was called up too soon. I  also believe the front office was pressured by Hollidays father and agent.

      When he first came up, his slider was very mediocre and only really used as a get me over change of pace. Now it seems like a weapon. I wonder if he went to school with Professor Bradish for that.

      After a really disappointing April that saw his ERA balloon to 7.78, Alex Pham has found his bearings in May, allowing 3 ER in 14.1 IP, allowing 8 hits and 4 walks while striking out 17.   Yesterday Pham allowed a run on 2 hits and a walk in 4.2 innings, striking out 7.   53 of 72 pitches were strikes.  The sole run charged to Pham scored when reliever Kyle Virbitsky allowed a 2-out double to the first batter he faced after relieving Pham in the fifth.    Due to the poor start, Pham’s ERA still rests at an unimpressive 5.29, but he’s definitely been headed in the right direction.  Also, he’s struck out 40 batters in 34 innings.

      I can’t emphasize enough how stupid that rain delay was.  No rain at all for 45 minutes, then two hours of light mist, the kind that teams play through all the time.  I was standing near the kids play area during most of the delay and believe me, that rain didn’t deter any kids from using the playground equipment for two hours. Then, 15 minutes before the game is going to start, the grounds crew is watering the infield.  What? The game itself was not worth the wait, needless to say.   But what annoys me most is the complete lack of communication during these delays.  How about letting the fans who are there know what the thinking is about how long the delay will be?  How about an update every 30 minutes or so.   Nope, nothing.   Just a generic message on the scoreboard saying that the start of the game will be delayed to to the “threat” of inclement weather.   My phone was showing .05” of rain expected in the next six hours.  Some threat! On the bright side, the team did announce that ticket holders would be given vouchers that could be used for a Monday - Thursday game.  That was the least they could do.
