From MLB Trade Rumors today:

•If Buck Showalter lands the Baltimore managerial job, former Orioles such as Bill Ripken and B.J. Surhoff would be candidates to join his staff.

Sounds like speculation. Has anyone seen this anywhere else?

Not speaking for Shack, but it's just not realistic during the season. Like the above examples, if he wants Hershiser of Flanny, then he absolutely has to have the authority to get them, right away.

But like Soxhotcorner said about Hale, he already has a job, and he's not coming til the offseason.

It all depends on who Buck wants and whether they have a ML job right now.

The way he worded it before, it was a slam dunk that it happens in the offseason and not before. He subsequently rephrased what he meant, and I agree with him and you that the new manager isn't likely to clean house. However, that is not to say if a manager has a coach that he likes to work with, (e.g. LaRussa and Duncan) that a coach may not be pushed aside when the new manager arrives.

The problem we had before was when you promote from within, the manager is less inclined to look outside the organization for his coaches. I don't have doubts that if we go with Showalter, we'll see a much revised coaching staff starting in 2011.
