As much as I hate seeing a pitcher swat at the ball every 3 innings in the batters box, late inning games are really fun to watch in the NL. That Cubs game in May that went on for hours was just brilliant television.

I went to two games in 1970 where Sam McDowell was moved from pitcher to an infield position just so that he wouldn't have to pitch to Frank Howard, then was moved back the following inning. It worked the first time, and sort of backfired the second time when Howard hit a hard grounder in the 1B/2B hole that McDowell (at 1B) couldn't handle. A regular 1B probably would have made the play, but it was scored a hit.

Two years ago Chris Resop played LF for a batter against the Pirates. He is a left specialist and there was a righty in between two lefties.

Oddly enough Resop now plays for... the Pirates.
