TWICE AS NICE, WYNNS HITS WALK-OFF HOMER IN THE NINTH

KEYS IMPROVE TO 9-1 AT HOME

FREDERICK, Md. –For the fourth time, the Keys earned a walk-off victory, as Austin Wynns homered off Robinson Yambati with one out in the ninth to give the orange and black a 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon at Nymeo Field. It was the club’s second walk-off triumph in as many nights, and accounted for the team’s largest comeback victory of the year. On Sunday, the Keys will try for a four-game sweep of the Blue Crew.

With the game knotted at three, Yambati (0-1) came back on to start the bottom of the ninth. He would retire Tucker Nathans on a pop out to send up Wynns. With only one professional home run on his resume, the Californian worked a 1-1 count before lining Yambati’s third pitch off the second level of billboards in left. It was the first blown save of the year for the Blue Rocks right-hander who allowed three runs over 0.2 of an inning. Frederick’s four walk-off wins in April surpass the team’s three total from 2014.

Wynns’ heroics were made possible by a three-run bottom of the eighth. All three markers came with two outs, as Wilmington southpaw Nick Green retired the first two batters of the inning before turning allowing a single to Johnny Ruettiger. Blue Crew manager Brian Buchanan made the call for Yambati, who walked Adrian Marin to put men at first and second. That sent up Drew Dosch who hit a slicing line drive to left-center. Dexter Kjerstad come sliding in, but could not make the catch, while the ball was redirected into center. Ruettiger and Marin both scored, while Dosch made it to third for his second triple of the year.

Trying to tie things up, Trey Mancini delivered against Yambati, with a soft single to left field to even the game at three apiece. The RBI single ended an 0-for-8 skid for Mancini. On the game, Frederick recorded eight hits, with half that total coming in the final two innings.

Nik Nowottnick provided lockdown relief for the Keys, despite not pitching in a game for the previous eight days. Taking over for starter Mitch Horacek with one out in the seventh, Nowottnick (1-0) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. He walked one and struck out two. It was his first win of the 2015 season. In a no-decision, Horacek registered his second quality start of the season, surrendering three runs on nine hits over 6.1 frames. He walked one and struck out two.

Blue Rocks starter Jakob Junis also turned in a quality outing, tossing six shutout innings of four-hit baseball. The righty walked one and struck out six, setting down 13 in-a-row from the second to the sixth. Around the plate all game, Junis also threw 17 consecutive strikes at one point.

Wilmington started the scoring in the second, after a walk by Zane Evans, two singles and a fielder’s choice by Logan Moon. One batter later, the Blue Rocks pulled off a successful double steal, with Moon stealing second and Dominique Taylor coming home. The visitors concluded their scoring in the third with via a double play ball by Mauricio Ramos with the bases loaded.

Akron seemed to always have an answer on Saturday afternoon. In both innings in which the Baysox registered runs, Akron tallied immediately following as Bowie dropped a 7-3 decision.

The Baysox grabbed the lead in the top of the second inning as SS Ozzie Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring home 3B Garabez Rosa with the game's first run.

Akron rallied quickly against Baysox starter Tim Berry. The Ducks got consecutive doubles from 3B Yandy Diaz and C Jake Lowery to tie the score. LF Ollie Linton walked and a bunt single from 1B Justin Tolle loaded the bases. When all was said and done, Akron had a 3-1 lead.

Down 5-1 in the fifth inning, the Baysox mounted a rally. Martinez and RF Mike Yastrzemski singled to start the frame. A wild pitch put runners at second and third bases respectively. CF Glynn Davis would bring home a run on a groundout and with two down DH Mike McDade singled home Yastrzemski to make it 5-3. McDade had to leave the game after coming up lame around first base.

Akron though rallied in the bottom half of the fifth inning. RF Anthony Gallas doubled and Diaz then put down a bunt single to start the rally. With the bases loaded and one down, the Baysox went to reliever Andrew Triggs. Triggs walked Toole to bring in a run and then a sacrifice fly by 2B Yonathan Mendoza brought the Akron lead to 7-3.

Triggs retired eight consecutive batters following the walk to start his outing. He has not allowed a run in five consecutive outings. RHP Ben Rowan entered and worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning.

Tim Berry isn't doing too well so far. I wonder if he's off his mental game because he's bummed out to be repeating Bowie after a pretty solid year last year.

I think it is a bit of the Mike Wright situation from last year. I think they are in the tweaking stages with him. Tony seems real high on him as a lefty reliever in the big leagues.
