Yankee's set deadline for Santana deal

They've told the Twins they have until late Monday to finish a deal or they're pulling out of negotiations. Just reading some of these quotes, the new Steinbrenner seems like a bit of an ass.

... We've made them the best offer. And at this point, it's not going to get any better. So they can decide. At this point, it's up to them. I don't think they want to lose us in this thing, obviously. Nobody wants to lose the Yankees in a negotiation.

I really like Hughes, but I don't see how any deal w/ Melky Cabrera in it can be considered the best on the table.

Orioles119... all thats been reported in the past 24 hours is that the Red Sox will include Ellsbury but not Lester as well. Were you just reporting late that the Sox will include Ellsbury in the discussions (which isnt THAT new, was reported early Sunday) or that they will include Ellsbury AND Lester? (which I haven't heard anywhere yet, have heard the opposite from every media outlet)

Starting to seem like the Yankees and Red Sox are hardening their positions. The remarks from Yankees sources and the feeling that the Twins are "pestering" the Red Sox has me thinking that this is really in a holding pattern and the Twins are going to have to make the next move. I think the dominoes could fall relatively quickly at this point.

    • I'm referring to recent Cowser. Overall he's had a pretty good year.
    • I get it, however there are a lot of teams that are playoff team who are struggling the second half. The Yankees have faired about the same. The Os can still win the division. I do agree that the best hope is the position players return, and play to their potential, and the same with the injured pitchers who could be back. I would feel a whole lot better going into the playoffs with those guys back.  Let me put it this way: I followed the Giants a lot because the Os sucked and my wife is a life long Giants fan. The 2010 team that won the WS didn’t feel that dominant going into the playoffs, but they caught fire and players that were not well known became hero’s.  This team is going to make the playoffs, if they shit the bed in the playoffs again, then I am ready to discuss all of this. Until then, this team still has a chance to win it all. The Rangers didn’t feel like a better team than the Os last year but they ended up winning it all.
    • Cowser has a .760 OPS as a rookie. Holliday and Mayo should be expected to be taking lumps and Mayo has hardly been given a real chance of sustained playing time. O'Hearn is just showing what he is, not an every day guy. He is closer to the grouping of Rivera/Jimenez/Slater than should be to the others. A cash considerations dump that we are very fortunate contributed for as long as he did. Not someone I think we should be counting on to carry the offense however. Adley has been very disappointing yes- so that one I agree on. But its the injuries to several of our main guys and filling those spots with the aforementioned names above that has really taken a fragile offense and sunk it to these levels.
    • Exactly.... plus, getting some pitching, etc. back you just never know - we know the talent and track record is there.  Maybe my expectations are too low but, if they make the playoffs and lose, it is a repeat from last year.  Not good, but what this team has been through...
