Some tweets regarding Teixeira's wrist injury:

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN

If Mark Teixeira is out opening day, that means hitters responsible for 186 of their 245 homers last season won't be available to them.

Andy McCullough ‏@McCulloughSL

Cashman said he was told Teixeira's injury is similar to the one Jose Bautista suffered last year. Which is, um, concerning.

(Just for fun, here's a link to Bautista's wrist injury timeline :D)

Jimmy Traina ‏@JimmyTraina

Yankee haters are going to LOVE this season. RT @JackCurryYES: Teixeira has strained right wrist and will miss 8 to 10 weeks.

Terrific article over at Grantland by Rany Jazayerli

It's not just good because it has a lot of Yankee doom in it. But he really spells out the Yankees' logical future and reasons why they're where they're at. Hopefully this is one of those articles you look back at the end of the year and see how everything fit into place.

And that comes AFTER they admitted that over the weekend Parachute Boy "reached out" to just-retired Chipper Jones in hopes he would come out of retirement and play for the Yankees.

Glad Chipper turned them down, he might still be able to help a team. Wouldn't mind seeing Lee take them up on their offer, I find it hard to believe he could really produce at this point.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but don't you guys all pretty much think that they are going to be just as big of spenders despite the fact that King George III is dead? I mean, they still have just as much money and everything and the same mentality. it is just different people (his son or sons) running the show. I just find it hard to believe that that the Yankees would change their habits one iota just because George is dead.

Of course, I would absolutely LOVE to see a salary cap in major league baseball, but that is another story, and it just is not going to happen.

I think this is a rebuilding year for them but once they get the cap under, who knows. I think I'll hold off my glee. I don't think they'll make the postseason this year..but the last time they didn't was back in 08..and we all know what happened the next year.

The Yankees are calling everyone they can think of for help.

IMO this a rebuilding year for the Yanks but they can't say that to their fanbase, whom for the most part think it's their right to make it into the postseason and win every year, though I do know some that respect other teams and realize they have to earn it like everyone else in baseball.

Reality will hit them soon enough and over the next few years. I think the Yankees will be going into a decline, where FA's will go elsewhere to win and they will have to test their farm system more and more.

And it will be good for baseball. From 62-75,from 81-93,baseball survived just fine without the Yankees being the team in baseball. It can most certainly do that again.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/9062220/mark-teixeira-new-york-yankees-says-wrist-injury-do-tendon

TAMPA, Fla. -- The injury that will keep New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira out of the lineup until May at the earliest is not a wrist strain, as originally reported, but a partially torn tendon sheath that could potentially require season-ending surgery.

...

"I don't know if it's the beginning of May, the end of May, the beginning of June, I don't know when it is but we got a whole bunch of season left and the time that really matters is the playoffs.''

Yeah but you gotta actually make there first Tex baby...

You weren't kidding. Fantastic article. Rep to you.

Here's my favorite part:

"If everything goes right, the Yankees can win 90 games again and contend for an AL East title. But for the first time since before the strike, the Yankees need everything to go right. And it never does."

Here's a key difference between what will happen at the end of this year and 08. Unlike 08,the Yanks aren't going to be able to open up the checkbook anymore without the rules hitting them hard.

And the people in charge now actually care about those rules, unlike King George.

The Yankees still have some great players and have solid pitching. But they really do seem poised to struggle this year. Best scenario for the Orioles is that Teix comes back with no surgery but finds he hasnt healed enough and has to have surgery in May or June and then misses the season.

Go Orioles.
