He's confused about the lack of extension talks when he's missing half the games with injuries?.
That's much more clear than you first post lol. He was confused and I was confused.

A lot of confusion.

I doubt the issue has anything to do with health. At last not Hardy's. I think it has more to do with Manny's health and the likely hood of him moving to SS. Hardy wants assurances that he will remain at SS for the duration of an extension and the O's aren't ready to give them yet.

I think that is part of it.

I think the development of Schoop, the acquisition of Lombardozzi, the development fo Flahaerty, and the commitment of 13-15M per year for 3 or 4 years are all involved in the O's thinking. The O's management like Hardy but are considering what is the best move considering the younger, cheaper players they have.

I'm going to be crystal clear about this: the way Dan Duquette is handling this is low class, and it stinks. And it's not the first time, and I'm getting sick of it.

If Duquette doesn't want to discuss an extension with Hardy right now, that's fine. If he doesn't want to extend him at all, fine. If he wants to wait until after the season to decide, fine. If he wants to postpone to the All Star Break, fine. All of that is Duquette's prerogative.

But what he CAN'T do is WHAT he IS doing -- make several public statements that he's going to try to extend Hardy this spring, and then have no communication with Hardy's agent about what is going on, leaving Hardy to guess and speculate and twist in the wind.

He more or less did the same thing with Reynolds, with Roberts, and to some extent, Jim Johnson. In each case, he made some public statements indicating some interest in retaining the player, then didn't even have the courtesy to call the player's agent to tell them his intentions or his timetable.

I understand that GMs play poker, and you can't take everything they say at face value, but they are dealing with human beings here, and if DD does this too often, with respected key members of the team, the entire clubhouse will take note. JJ Hardy signed a team friendly extension before, was forthright then and now about wanting to stay with the club, and he deserves communication and honesty, at a minimum.

What goes around comes around, Dan. Just wait and see.

Duquette's issue is he likes to sit in the middle of the road and wait until the last minute to make decisions. All sitting in the middle of the road gets you is run over. On Roberts and Johnson it looks okay. Ubaldo..not so much.

Honestly, Hardy should not be concerned where he is playing if he gets paid.

All it takes to stop the extension talk is one market-overpriced, I won't budge from this number from an agent, aka Jim Johnson situation all over again.

Since we don't know what Hardy's agent proposed, but that it could have killed the deal. Or at least forced the Orioles to wait to see how the younger players do before making that decision.

Until you know what's what from both sides, it's wrong to criticize DD.

I think this is company policy that comes from the top, not necessarily DD's preferred way of handling the situation. Angelos has dealt with many key members of the organization this way, including Davey Johnson and Ray Miller. Now, it's Hardy's turn. While I don't want the O's to re-sign Hardy, I do think that misleading him in this way could come back to haunt them, as Hardy is a very influential member of the team. They all will remember what happens here. I think the O's should announce that they will revisit the question after the season so JJ isn't distracted by the (lack of) talks.

I think Hardy's extention boils down to one thing-Flaherty. They need to see alot of him this year to make any decisions about Hardy. If Flaherty is ready for prime time, then you let Hardy go, giving you an infield of Davis, Schoop, Flaherty and Machado with Lombo as your UTL. Or you only give Hardy the QO and if he signs it, you take him and platoon Flaherty and Schoop. But if Flaherty is nothing more than a UTL, then you do everything you can to resign Hardy at a reasonable price.

Yup,seems like contract extension talks seem to get conflicting statements. Remember when Duquette said he has talked to Davis about an extension and he said it was news to him. I think it will be interesting to see the fan reaction if both Hardy and Markakis left this year and Wieters and Davis the next. I guess it all depends on the Orioles record.
