UPDATE, 1-30-08 at 5:19pm: MLB.com's Jim Street says a last-ditch attempt by the Orioles to sign Bedard to a five-year contract is holding up the trade. Street says Bedard's agent told Andy MacPhail it would take seven years and $100MM, however. Street touches on the Jones degenerative hip thing, indicating that the Orioles heard this but it turned out to be unsubstantiated.

IF indeed this is just PR spin, consider this. Bedard quite frankly isn't that much of an icon for this town - he hasn't accepted us and the town hasn't, for whateve reason accepted him. If this byzantine turn of events is any indication,

then Roberts, who HAS become an icon, will generate so much stomach twisting indecision that we'll never be able to deal him. I say Roberts is going nowhere.

Locking up an ace for 5 years wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Then you hope Loewen shines this year, and maybe move him for a great outfield prospect.

If the Orioles would still move BRob for Pie and Gallagher and we dealt some of the young pitching and guys like Walker and Bradford and added someone like Lillibridge and other guys like that, it would be ok..Not great but ok.

But we aren't going to do all of that if we keep Bedard, so therefore it would be a stupid thing.

You know, on second thought, you all are right. This kind of thing certainly happens with all the other clubs too. We just don't follow them closely enough.

I mean really... are the striking WGA writers scripting this comedy of errors? Or is the FO pummeling us with so much information/misinformation/miscommunication to wear us down into submission? "That will show those hard-core fans to follow the team so rabidly! Casual, ignorant fandom for everyone! Muhahaha!"

Pass the alcohol...

Turn us? You aren't there yet?

Nah, somehow I haven't hit the bottle yet. That could be why I have constant headaches and my back hurts...

Seriously, I think this offseason has taken a year off my life. They need to put a disclaimer on Orioles merchandise warning the general public: "Following and supporting this team may be hazardous to your health."

Did somebody say jump to conclusions?

Have I got the product for you!

That's the worst idea I've ever heard in my life!

Last time I checked, all of this confusion is the result of rumors from unnamed sources and speculation from sports writers. Do you really believe that AM and Angelos are sitting in the offices thinking up ways to mess with Orioles fans?
