Where will Reimold go? (Update: DFA)

So a flyer on Reimold wouldn't make sense for the Red Sox?

Then let the Red Sox take that flyer, and wish Nolan good luck. It makes no sense to clear space on the active roster for Reimold when doing so would arguably address the least of the O's current problem areas (i.e., DH). Nolan isn't going to supplant Cruz for the majority of LF ABs (and the quality of Nolan's defense is an open question anyway), and he'd have a fairly substantial hill to climb in order to surpass the production that Pearce and Young have supplied thus far. In short, you'd be risking turning the DH/platoon role into an even greater weakness (in the all-too-likely event that Reimold either (1) gets hurt or (2) proves to be unproductive) for the chance, however slight, at a modest increase in production from roles that are already being covered adequately.

If the O's are looking to improve offensively, they should probably start with 2B, then maybe think about catcher. And if they're really feeling Holiday Inn Express-sharp, they might want to save their bullets until after the dust has settled with the pitching staff (i.e., are the starters for real, and is the bullpen really deep enough to support the team going forward, or do they need help despite recent successes?).

All of that has nothing to do with what I was saying but OK.

Me, I want Young off the team, I have from day one and I will continue to do so.

I don't like having players on the O's whose past conduct turns my stomach.

He is a classic example of a I would rather lose without him then win with him player.

No serious team should claim him, even if he hit 400 with 20 HRs in the Minors we all know he will have a new injury, losing Young or anyone else for 5 games that he would play healthy is plain stupid.

How can you be positive about this?

If he looks like he can still play, I can see a team taking a chance on a guy who has displayed the tools that he did at the major laegue level.

He's obviously physically fragile, but he may be a relatively cheap option for someone.

Further, I pretty much said that the Orioles should take the risk of losing him at this point.

I get the sentiment, but my cynicism makes me believe that players like Young are more common than "solid citizens" in professional sports, entertainment, etc. Young was just "unfortunate" in that he was dumb enough to display his worst qualities out in the open and without a filter. Really, I'd wager that the number of Orioles you'd enjoy grabbing a drink with is convincingly outnumbered by those you'd rather avoid.

Have you read the story of his redemption and official accepted apology from the rabbi (forget the actual terminology here)? It's a nice article that you should read to see the end of the story that everyone chooses to gloss over. Delmon is the perfect example of a guy who realized he messed up and went above and beyond to fix it.

I read it.

Don't believe it.

That is just my nature.

Yes, but ignorance is bliss.

I don't think it is an issue with being immature. My Grandmother sure wasn't immature it didn't make her less of an anti-Semite.

My Grandmother had dementia and thought she was 16 years old towards the end of her life. She was pretty immature at that point.

Lots of people do and say stupid things when they are young. Some grow out of it. Apparently, your grandmother did not. I'm willing to give Delmon Young the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

Apparently, he's been a good citizen while with the O's.

Mine had her full faculties all the way to the end. She was like a viper.

So your opinion of Delmond Young is based upon your experience with your grandmother's unrelenting prejudices?

I wonder what this world would be like if no one had ever been given a second chance?

I've been given plenty of third chances.

I would just prefer to not have him on the team I root for.

That is the full extent of what I was discussing.

When he came to bat at the game I attended this spring I didn't cheer or boo him.

At no point did I say that he should be banned from pursuing his choice of livelihood.

    • I have to think something is going on behind the scenes. They look like they have just quit. Hyperbole, I know, but I wonder if there is anxiety over new ownership wanting their own people in the FO? Before you all tear me apart, IT’S JUST AN OBSERVATION!
    • Some don’t like this quote from Hyde but this kind of goes back to what the hitting coaches are saying. The coaches (if we are to believe them) are preparing these guys but once they get in the box, things are changing. This is all mental with these guys. It is time for them to relax and start having fun again. They need a players only team meeting and get themselves loosened up.
    • I doubt it is normal, though I’m sure that well more than half the pitchers who pitch for any particular team were not drafted by that team.   Teams use so many pitchers these days, and there are so many pitchers who cycle around the league off the waiver wire.
    • Couple of things about what Mike said: 1).   Grayson will not start during the regular season.    Time has run out to build him up.   That means Burnes, Eflin. Suarez, Kremer and Povich the rest of the way if they can stay healthy.   Maybe Grayson as an opener or a reliever in the playoffs. Coulombe  as early as Friday.  I am guess either Smith or Kimbrel go. Westy and  Urias  on rehab  in the next few days.   Getting these guys back could be a  big mental boost for the team.  What level of performance they will be able to produce coming off a layoff is another things.      I would think Mayo and Holliday are optioned. Mountcastle is swinging but his wrist is still sore.   Where that goes in anyones guess.   If he comes back Jimenez will not be needed. 2).  When Mike says this has been a winning team for that last two years and he believes they can get back to that,  to me he is not just talking about the team.     He is talking about himself.    This is the first time Mike has experienced things not going the way he planned to this degree.    Quite frankly his looks a little shell shocked.    The pitching having troubles with injuries is reality to him.  Pitchers get hurt.    But his offense going from 5 runs per game in the first half  to almost zero is shocking to him.   He did not see that coming.  Adley, and O'Hearn were supposed to step up when needed.   Instead they took a step back.  None of Holliday, Mayo, or Kjerstad being able to help in the 2nd half was not the way this was planned.    Here is hoping the Westy, Urias and Kjerstad can help real soon.
    • This board is smart enough to realize that the grass isn't always greener. The only way I see Hyde on the hot seat is if we miss the playoffs completely, which still feels very unlikely. Even then, I doubt he'd be fired during the offseason, but maybe. But then what? I don't think you give Buck Britton a shot at this roster. He's doing his thing and doing it well at AAA helping to develop guys. Could bring back Buck Showalter or Joe Girrardi, those sound like fun names. Or better yet, I bet everyone here with a torch and a pitchfork has their own little crystal ball with a short list of candidates ready to catch lightning in a bottle.
    • The 4-run deficit was surmountable if we had more than one player who can hit the damn ball.   Kimbrel giving up six runs in the 9th may turn out to be a blessing.
