That and to play in a mediocre division. That's the Cardinals magic success strategy.

The division has nothing to do with winning in the playoffs. That actually helps what I am saying. They had barely better than average records in both seasons when they won the World Series and they did not go crazy on contracts.

My only point is that a lot of the time, the playoffs are a crapshoot. And despite what some people may think, you don't need to be a big spender to win it all. Payroll is not the only thing that determines wins and losses.

At least the beat reporters are catching up.

You can stop it now. We all get your point.

Jarlin Garcia

Signed out of the Dominican Republic in August 2010, Garcia spent his first three pro seasons in rookie or short-season leagues and was inconsistent in the early going at low Class A Greensboro this year. He finished strong however, permitting a total of just four earned runs over his final seven starts to finish at 10-5 with a 4.38 ERA. He led the South Atlantic League with a 5.2 K/BB ratio (111/21 in 133 2/3 innings), though he did surrender 152 hits for a .286 opponent average.

Garcia has no problem filling the strike zone, but he needs to do a better job of locating his pitches within it. He has the potential for three quality offerings: a 91-95 mph fastball with some cutting action, an upper-70s curveball that has good depth when he stays on top of it, and a low-80s changeup with some promising fade.

Garcia is just 21 and lacks consistency, though he also has some projection remaining in his skinny 6-foot-2 frame. He has the upside of a No. 3 starter, even if he's a few years from getting there, and he also could make for a nifty lefty reliever out of the bullpen if the rotation doesn't work out.

Your correct about the Cardinals payroll discipline but they are a remarkably well run organization active in multiple markets and very good in the Rule 4 draft.

What a steal.

For a 5 year contract to a DH, that seems pretty expensive. And that's not even counting what we would have had to give up.

There's your rotation then:

1. Porcello

2. Miley

3. Kelly

4. Buchholz

5. Masterson

...on second thought, they could still use another one.
