Thank you sir. That means a lot. I appreciate your post here. Class act as always sir.

I think my biggest thing for me is fairness and anti-bullying. I don't like to see anyone get bullied regardless if there point is dumb or not. Just want to have a fair playing field so to speak.

I am ok with someone getting pilled on if their heart is not pure. If they are truly here as a community member, I defend those with different views completely. As I have said. Fairness is something that we talk about. But behind the scenes. You would not want our private conversations revealed just as we do not discuss our moderation here. I assume you know that we have good intentions as well. I would never allow for a defenseless individual to be bullied here.

That's something like beauty contestants and "world peace".

Unfortunately, here in Oriole Hangout, not all are actual fans of the team. :(

And as you have seen, that gets determined, and the hurd gets culled.

The hard part is defining what is or is not bullying.

For instance last week I was using something you said as an in-joke and you thought I meant more by it then I did. Similarly if we speak of someone having a bad baseball name we are not bullying the poster that originally said that about Hayden Penn, we are participating in a shared memory.

It is just so very hard to fathom intent.

It is easier from this side. We do have more information. We have folks from all over the world and America posting here. We have folks who self identify as fans of another franchise. When we have just had a Toronto uprising and suddenly folks are trying to sign up from eastern European proxies. Well.

Maybe they are Rick VandenHurk fans (?)

Yeah, I totally understand some of the newer poster's reticence to ingratiate themselves into the community because it is hard when you are not aware of the history on the board of seemingly banal criticisms/phrases/topics like "Hang on for the ride", "bad baseball name", bringing kids to the game, intentional misspellings of popular players, "TWTW", "save rule", and "bedroom talk with Old#5fan". A certain patter and rapport develops, like with any group of people who have known each other for a long time and someone new doesn't know all the inside jokes and references.

Sure. But this is a nice place for new folks. Plenty of new posters are in good conversations within 100 posts. And if they choose not to make those 100, well... you cant be there for everyone.

This is where I am too. I completely disagree with Brian for instance, but I can tell his heart is pure and he listens to what "the other side" is saying. So, I would don't screw with him. There are others that I can't say that about. In my opinion, once their schtick is obvious and they've been given ample opportunity to adopt a new approach, I don't feel bad about going after their "logic" pretty aggressively (until I'm told to chill out in PM ;) )

Brian is a nice guy. He is. And for those who don't care for a group of guys determining their motivations behind the scenes... There has been more than one reversed call after a well thought out PM.

    • I thought Chisholm missed home too. They didn’t appeal tho I don’t think.
    • Now run scores and Yanks take lead.
    • Inexcusable missed call in NY. Review Cleo at showed Chisholm out at 2nd. They upheld safe call.
    • Well, good on posters who proved the SSS side of "Guards Ball." I just found it striking in terms of the narrative in that article, which was basically the same as what most around here were complaining the O's lacked: clutch hitting, passing the baton, aggressive running, getting runners in from third, etc. I guess the real bottom line is "whatever works." Which of course varies from case to case. The old Bill James postseason wisdom was that HRs are the ticket, since you face good pitching and get so few hits. So back to you, Elias, keep crunching those numbers...
    • First, the had a jump in 23’ given how terrible they had been previously, which conditions many fans in the marketplace not to care. They simple weren’t relevant for years. So one very good regular season will not undue years of being bad/irrelevant and treating your customers terribly. Next, I think they missed an opportunity in the offseason by not doing enough by way of big/bold attention grabbing moves. Now I acknowledge that this was most likely due to the ownership flux/transition. I believe they got an attendance/marketplace engagement boost when they changed owners and when they traded for Burnes. However, I believe we would have seen more engagement attendance with say a big Gunnar extension and/or bringing in a big time FA.   IMO this would have created more buzz before the season (say around the time people make season tix decisions - IMO before Christmas is when some people make those bigger purchases). All of this is to say, that it will take time and effort on the organizations part because of how bad of a stain that the Angeloses left. I still have friends and colleagues who refuse to support the Orioles and attend games due to the damage that was done. Rubenstien & co are not going to be able to undo 30 years of awfulness overnight. But IMO it is not enough to simply call it “a new chapter”. They have to make new/different actions to distinguish themselves from who the Orioles were/used to be under the Angelos regime.
    • Just checking in on Gameday, Yankees looking incredibly vulnerable.  Should be the Os out there.  Super lame.  Whichever team wins this series I hope gets knocked out by CLE or DET.
    • If the franchise were better, the fan base would be too.  It’s been a rough 40 years.
