Janish and Clevenger belong on this team in 2016

Janish and Clevenger are nuggets. Both are players that consistently grind out AB's. Janish is great defensively. Clevenger has worked really hard. I think he could handle catching 50-60 games a year with Joseph catching the rest. Clevenger also has the bat to DH or play 1st base. I know these guys aren't young but they fit what this team needs.

Good chance Clevenger will be our second catcher, so long as he plays decent defense. I know Janish has looked decent at the plate, but his offensive track record is not good. I'm not convinced he'll hit well enough to stick, unless Hardy has more injury problems.

Hady now has a recent history of injuries.. no reason to think it won't continue in some fashion.

His career OPS+ is 55. Hardy's this year is 56.

So he's 2015 Hardy, with maybe a tad better defense, at the vet minimum. Hmmm.

Hardy can't be traded after this season without permission because he will be a 10/5 guy. If they want to move him and make Janish the SS, they need to do it this season.

It might, or it might not. I'd certainly expect Hardy to play in more games and to hit better in 2016 compared to 2015.

If you are frustrated with Hardy's hitting, Janish will really drive you nuts. He is a good defensive backup option.

Clevenger and Joseph should make a great platoon and if he continues to hit, Clevenger will end up with the majority of ABs as a lefty and could get DH ABs too.

Good post.

I like Janish. I liked Parmalee too.

I love these threads after less than 5 games....reminds me of the Parmalee threads naming him heir apparent to CD.

Focus and perspective people:)

Clevenger should def be here with Joseph next year. Agreed there.

I'd offer Janish a $1 million minor league contract and keep him at Norfolk next year as insurance for when JJ gets injured. He's a perfectly good stopgap because of his outstanding defense, but there is overwhelming evidence that he can't hit a lick. I would rather have Flaherty as my utility player.

Clevenger, on the other hand, should definitely be on the team as a backup catcher and lefty DH. The way I see it, Joseph should catch the majority of games, but Clevenger should catch 50 games and should DH against righties when he isn't catching.

The Janish love is beyond absurd. NO ONE was on this message board demanding he be brought up all year. I don't recall a single post.

He's been up a few days and suddenly he is being talked about as either a potential starting SS or someone we need to throw a million dollars at?

You have to be kidding me.

Didn't we have both Everth Cabrera AND Ryan Flaherty on the team this year for some time? Was that when Hardy was hurt? Janish can play short and back up second and third. He can't play first like Flaherty and his bat is not good, but then Flaherty's isn't either. But Flaherty is a Buck favorite. If Janish stays next year in the Everth Cabrera memorial role of backing up JJ and then playing way too much because JJ is hurt, then we are going to be hurting offensively.

    • First, the had a jump in 23’ given how terrible they had been previously, which conditions many fans in the marketplace not to care. They simple weren’t relevant for years. So one very good regular season will not undue years of being bad/irrelevant and treating your customers terribly. Next, I think they missed an opportunity in the offseason by not doing enough by way of big/bold attention grabbing moves. Now I acknowledge that this was most likely due to the ownership flux/transition. I believe they got an attendance/marketplace engagement boost when they changed owners and when they traded for Burnes. However, I believe we would have seen more engagement attendance with say a big Gunnar extension and/or bringing in a big time FA.   IMO this would have created more buzz before the season (say around the time people make season tix decisions - IMO before Christmas is when some people make those bigger purchases). All of this is to say, that it will take time and effort on the organizations part because of how bad of a stain that the Angeloses left. I still have friends and colleagues who refuse to support the Orioles and attend games due to the damage that was done. Rubenstien & co are not going to be able to undo 30 years of awfulness overnight. But IMO it is not enough to simply call it “a new chapter”. They have to make new/different actions to distinguish themselves from who the Orioles were/used to be under the Angelos regime.
    • Just checking in on Gameday, Yankees looking incredibly vulnerable.  Should be the Os out there.  Super lame.  Whichever team wins this series I hope gets knocked out by CLE or DET.
    • If the franchise were better, the fan base would be too.  It’s been a rough 40 years.
    • It also means we don’t have to trade our prospect capital to acquire him
    • Machado just hit a 2 run home run off of Yamamoto.  I hope the Orioles young players are taking notes.
    • Yeah it was priced initially the same as the ALDS games, same as last year. Nobody was rushing to pay those prices. And by the time the tickets reached appropriate levels, by the Orioles lowering their prices or the secondary market coming down in price, fans have like 24 hours to figure out their plans to attend a mid afternoon game. It’s just not worth getting upset about — we still had an awesome crowd and the only thing missing was an offense to ignite it.
