Who's our 5th starter if we don't add anyone else

Worley is definitely not as bad as people think. He's a solid pitcher, and under normal circumstances with a better rotation, absolutely a fine #5 starter. It's just that our rotation is already no damn good. :)

The problem is that he's a significant downgrade from Chen. As a 5th starter candidate, he's fine.

It won't matter because Duquette is hoping for everything to fall right with our rotation which is a disaster waiting to happen.
I had not heard that.

It's pretty obvious from who is left on the market. Tillman, Gausman, and Gonzo will have to improve with Ubaldo at least maintaining 2015 production for us to have a chance. And that is if we get Latos or Gallardo, which we probably won't, and shouldn't.

Roch Kubatko

Keep an eye on the Padres' Andrew Cashner, a free agent after this season who interests the Orioles. He slipped to 6-16 with a 4.34 ERA and 1.440 WHIP in 31 starts last season after going 5-7 with a 2.55 ERA, 1.127 WHIP and two shutouts in 19 starts in 2014.

It still seems more realistic that the Orioles acquire a starter via trade, as long as teams stop asking for Kevin Gausman. However, Mat Latos remains unsigned and could be a one-year bounce back candidate.

Cashner is missing more bats than ever this season, and limiting well-struck balls. His 21.2% strikeout rate and 8.39 K/9 would both be career bests by a wide margin since he became a full-time member of the San Diego rotation in 2013. His line-drive rate is 28th lowest among starting pitchers, and his hard-hit rate is down 0.5% from last season. On the other, his walk rate is up to 7.4% from 5.7% last year, and his HR/FB ratio is 14.6%, more than double what it was in 2014.

Interesting column today. That is about as critical of the organization as I have seen him get in recent memory.

He notes in defense of the O's that the offseason isn't over and speculates on trading for Cashner. Still:

There's been a significant amount of activity, but not enough directed at the rotation. And that was supposed to be the No. 1 priority, as we were told following the .500 finish in 2015.

Worley is 18-13 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.351 WHIP in three seasons with the Phillies, 12-10 with a 3.31 ERA and 1.294 WHIP in two seasons with the Pirates and 1-5 with a 7.21 ERA and 1.993 WHIP in 10 starts with the Twins in 2013.

The American League didn't treat him kindly.

The critics will heap the same abuse on the Orioles if they don't improve their rotation.
