He actually pitched well after a horrible 1st inning.

He retired 8 straight batters between the 1st and 3rd innings, then gave up a bloop single on an 0-2 count to start the 4th inning before Showalter brought in Chris Lee.

Yep after running up the type of first inning pitch count that insures the bullpen will be involved early and putting his team in a sizeable hole he pitched pretty well.

The first thing that I stated is that he pitched horribly in the 1st inning.

Perhaps I should have elaborated more as you did, but I thought that "after a horrible first inning" sufficed.

More walks than innings pitched, I guess I'll just cross my fingers when he starts.

In other words, you'll pretty much continue to do what you have been doing since the day that we signed him back in February of 2014.

Well, of course, but I think the title of this thread is questionable.

As I stated on the previous page, I'm only borrowing this thread for Spring Training, until the real games start:

I'm going to simply borrow this thread for Jimenez' 2017 preseason games.

I don't want to start (or ask Il BuonO to start) a Ubaldo Jimenez Today thread until the games actually count.

Hence, if Jimenez gets knock out of the box in 2/3 of an inning in a preseason game, please don't take my posting in this thread as a sign that I necessarily thought that he had a good outing.

'Tis not the title of the thread, but the content therein. We need a "Bad Ubaldo!" thread.

We actually have one:

But for the sake of consolidation and continuity (especially considering that it is only Spring Training), I decided to use this one, with the stipulation that I made in my post from the previous page.

IMO he wasnt as bad as his line looked.  He should have been out of the 4th with no runs scored, but Caleb missed a pop up, missed a swinging third strike... He had to get 6 outs instead of 3.  He should have been out of it with about 15 pitches and no runs.  Walks got him in trouble though.  I think we all know that he needs the defense at its best whenever he pitches.
