I can already see the James Shields threads starting now. If the Padres ate most of his salary, it'd be ok. But by the language that I'm seeing from the O's, I think that isn't the case.

Sorry if a stupid question, but I thought mlb player contracts were fully guaranteed? The Angels could get out of paying Pujols for the next whatever years by cutting him? Hiow is it that so many teams are on the hook for horrible contracts but we get to save money by cutting Miguel?

Multi year contracts are. One year contracts are only guaranteed after opening day.
