How sweet would it be to have him in our rotation right now at 1 year, 6 million? I know hindsight is 20/20, but well done by the A's to give Hill a chance. Were we in on him at all this offseason? I paid more attention to the Kazmir pursuit but do remember hearing about Hill's little September revival with the Red Sox..

He was on the O's minor league several years ago or so.

Question.

You are a pitcher, Oakland is willing to go 1/6.

How much more would the O's have to offer for you to consider pitching in Baltimore instead of Oakland?

One year, make good deal?

Oakland coliseum VS OPACY?

I'd want a second year or a 50% premium.

Fair enough. Just a bummer to see a lefty starter on the cheap tearing it up. And I do realize he was with the O's at one point. I remember watching and literally the only pitch he could throw for a strike was that nasty curve ball.

This guy has transformed into one of the best pitchers in the game, no exaggeration. It's almost inexplicable, but the numbers back it up. There's sample size, durability, and age concerns, but he's been so outrageously good you can't deny there's something there. He's on my radar for the trade deadline and this offseason.

I think Rich Hill will follow the Bartolo Colon career path where he keeps getting short term, fairly high salary deals and teams keep saying "he can't possibly keep doing this, right?" And then he'll just keep doing it.

I also love Josh Reddick. They are both in their last year of their deals. Would love to see both of them in orange and black.

Jesus, frustrating.

Rich Hill is pitching above his weight.. look at his stats, he's pitched only 1 full season and he was close to 4 ERA pitcher.

Jason Hammel was not resigned after posting close to a 5 ERA in 2013.

When Hill was with the Cubs he was very good, but one day he lost his release point and was pretty much ruined for the next 5+ years.Point being in 2007 he put up a 3.1fWAR season. Yes the FIP and xFIP look ugly by today's numbers, but that season was in the middle of the steroid era.His ERA- that year was 85, well above average.

Middle of the steroid era? Last I checked by 2004/5 players were being outed by the Mitchell Report. In 2005 players union approved suspensions.

Also, if you ask some.. there is still steroids in the game.

2007- avg runs scored per team 777

2015-avg runs scored per team 688

Even if you don't like the terminology, at the very least it was a completely different offensive era.

Theo should get the GM of the decade award.

Yea right, like he knew Arrieta was going to pitch as well as he has pitched. He got very lucky that he was able to turn around his career there.

    • This is no big deal ….He has a right to have an opinion. I believe Holiday was called up too soon. I  also believe the front office was pressured by Hollidays father and agent.
    • When he first came up, his slider was very mediocre and only really used as a get me over change of pace. Now it seems like a weapon. I wonder if he went to school with Professor Bradish for that.
    • Yeah, kinda why I asked the question. That seems real lofty for a comparison.
    • After a really disappointing April that saw his ERA balloon to 7.78, Alex Pham has found his bearings in May, allowing 3 ER in 14.1 IP, allowing 8 hits and 4 walks while striking out 17.   Yesterday Pham allowed a run on 2 hits and a walk in 4.2 innings, striking out 7.   53 of 72 pitches were strikes.  The sole run charged to Pham scored when reliever Kyle Virbitsky allowed a 2-out double to the first batter he faced after relieving Pham in the fifth.    Due to the poor start, Pham’s ERA still rests at an unimpressive 5.29, but he’s definitely been headed in the right direction.  Also, he’s struck out 40 batters in 34 innings.
    • I can’t emphasize enough how stupid that rain delay was.  No rain at all for 45 minutes, then two hours of light mist, the kind that teams play through all the time.  I was standing near the kids play area during most of the delay and believe me, that rain didn’t deter any kids from using the playground equipment for two hours. Then, 15 minutes before the game is going to start, the grounds crew is watering the infield.  What? The game itself was not worth the wait, needless to say.   But what annoys me most is the complete lack of communication during these delays.  How about letting the fans who are there know what the thinking is about how long the delay will be?  How about an update every 30 minutes or so.   Nope, nothing.   Just a generic message on the scoreboard saying that the start of the game will be delayed to to the “threat” of inclement weather.   My phone was showing .05” of rain expected in the next six hours.  Some threat! On the bright side, the team did announce that ticket holders would be given vouchers that could be used for a Monday - Thursday game.  That was the least they could do.
    • 19,286 for that rain-delayed mess of a game.  I’d say about 2/3 of those stuck through the 3 hour delay and were in their seats at game time.
