Buck Stuff

Inexcusable.

The entire world is currently slack jawed at what was one of the worst decisions in the history of professional sports.

Outside of sports I'm sure Buck is a good person, but within the realm of the sport this is unforgivable. This ranks right up there with Maier but feels worse because it was self-inflicted.

We spend money and time supporting this team and the manager decides to not play the best player. There is no discussion, there is no nothing. This can't happen but it did.

I'm done with him. Thanks for helping turn the ship around. There is no coming back from this.

Unfortunately, there's zero chance of either scenario happening. Buck might be the most stubborn and arrogant manager in baseball.

Would have gone to Britton there certainly - but this game is ultimately on the offense. Even if Britton does pitch, we probably still lose.

Yes the offense was horrible. But if you bring in Britton is energizes the club and demoralizes the Jays. They ahd the top of the lineup up. Use Britton for their 5 best hitters over the next two inning. Try to score a run and go to Texas.

One of the best pitfchers in the game has to pitch before you go to a 2nd starter. Has to. SF ran Bumgarner to a World Series title. Our stud didn't even get in.

Does Buck make all of our hitters (minus Kim) swing at constant garbage, as hard as they can, in every possible situation? Our offensive approach is horrendous. Some of us have been trying to point that out for a looong time. You can not sustain success, especially in the playoffs, with a lineup full of hackers. It's a seriously flawed roster and it can not win.

No, but it's his coaches that are teaching them to do that. It's him and his coaches that refuse to alter their approach. It sure can't win if it's manager keeps shooting them in the foot. Buck has proven over his lengthy

career that he cannot win in the postseason. He has zero World Series appearances, one ALCS appearance where his team was swept and people are saying he's the best manager in baseball. Please. If you're the best,

you don't make the kind of mistakes that Buck makes and refuses to learn from them. The best manager in baseball uses Britton in this game. The offensive woes have nothing to do with not using Britton for two innings.

All it takes it one bad pitch to take the lead and Britton gives us two more innings to get something going.

Buck Showalter will never lead a team to the World Series; ever. He is, put simply, not that good. He is a regular season manager that manages a postseason game the same as he does a regular season game in May.

He is just not a guy who can take a team there. He never has been and never will be unless he changes and he is way too stubborn for that. If you're satisfied with having a good regular season, fine, Buck is for you. If

you want more out of the team like, I don't know, a World Championship or at the very least competing in the ALCS, you'll be sorely disappointed.

Buck played like a regular season game, waiting for the save situation which never came. Pretty poor to lose a game like that without your best pitcher getting 2 innings in.

I believe Ubaldo is typically bad in his first innings also. No way Ubaldo, and even Duensing should be in that game unless Britton has been used up.

Perhaps Buck fondly remembered games like this one where Ubaldo pitched a complete game gem, and forgot about the 3-run homer he allowed in his first inning of work. If a game were 20 innings long maybe Ubaldo would have settled down and gone the distance.

It surely doesn't help matter that he keeps benching the one hitter you mentioned that doesn't swing at constant garbage. If Buck benched Jones or Schoop or Davis for their terrible approaches at the plate, maybe it might cause to wake up and try alter their approach. Unfortunately, we all know that will never happen.

You have to at least make them best your best. As for the offense, it's not like the vaunted Jays bats did much thru 10 1/3. It's the playoffs, runs are tough to come by. Buck has to put guys in the best position to succeed and get us more at bats. That didn't happen tonight.

Everything about that last inning was awful.

Reimold pinch hitting when he has no business being in the major leagues let alone the game.

Then keeping him in LF to fumble the ball, while Stubbs, who's whole purpose is to give us late inning defense is on the bench.

Not walking Encarnacion? Why? What's the strategy to pitch to him?

Losing with Britton not even getting in the game is one of the most sickening feelings ever.

Yes the Offense sucked but with the game on the line and no tomorrow you have to go with Britton and give your offense another chance.

What we did felt like giving it away.

I'm a huge Ubaldo fan. He seems like a great man and he's my wife's favorite player.

But if you are going to keep Ubladon in there (and one was up in the pen behind him so they had no choices), then you don't want Encarnacion. Ubaldo is wild as hell. You don't want him walk in the winning run.

We can quibble on that but there is ZERO excuse to not bring in Britton for 2 innings before a starter. Unless you thought he'd get hurt like Usuna but BUck said he could go 2 post-game.

The hitting coach said long ago that this isn't a way you can continue to win ball games, Buck should start sitting guys who only try to hit home runs and strike out a ton.

It's like he was trying to copy Gibbons and Liriano move got into his head. I know as a fan it got into mine. It felt like that was gonna be a long game. That said, UJ's stuff is not Liriano's out of the pen. Would have much preferred Britton/Bundy/Hunter to try to match Liriano's length.

What other choices did Gibbons have? Their bullpen sucks.

Two totally different decisions.

In a long extra inning game, sure we would eventually have to go to Ubaldo and say the next five innings are yours. And we probably would have lost.

But our BIGGEST ADVANTAGE as a team was that our bullpen was better than theirs. And they fired ALL the bullets in their pen and went to Liriano. We had fired MOST of our bullets but we still had the best one of all left. And we chose to throw away the one real advantage we had as a team and go to Ubaldo which at best was an even matchup with Liriano. Instead of saying hey, we can have one or two innings with the best reliever in baseball vs a mediocre starter in an unfamiliar role, we said how about we give you a chance by putting in a mediocre starter in a relief role too. It wouldn't be sporting to give ourselves a huge advantage by using one of our best players when your best are already gone.

Probably but just because it's hard to make a terrible managing decision when you have 14 straight losing seasons.

Things I didn't agree with:

Not pinch hitting Mancini instead of Reimold.

Not bringing in Britton at all.

Pulling Givens a little too early.

Managing the 11th inning like a split squad ST game.
