Hall being overslot now makes me wonder if we'll have funds to really be able go after some of the HS kids like Allen and Jones.  Or perhaps the FO already knows they are not going to be able to meet their demands.

I have thought from the start that the late picks overslots candidates were more of a fallback if DL doesn't sign.  I think they must feel good about Hall eventually signing if they inked Hall to an overslot deal first.

I agree; I think this puts the nail in the coffin for Jones and Logan.  A little disappointed; didn't think he would be an overslot.  The fact that he was drafted higher than expected and signed so quickly made me think he was slot or even underslot.

We gave Mountcastle the same $1.3 mil bonus in 2015 when we drafted him in 1-36.  The FO must think pretty highly of Hall to give him the same dollar amount at 2-60.

Pretty excited about the top 3, Halls & Lowth.

Instructional league also brought a return to action for Adam Hall, who played in just two games during his pro debut in the Gulf Coast League -- he collected three hits in both contests -- before suffering a season-ending oblique injury in mid-July.

"Adam was healthy and did great. He impressed all of us out here," Graham said about the Orioles' No. 10 prospect.

Drafted by Baltimore in the second round and signed for $1.3 million, Hall is a well above-average runner with an advanced feel to hit and some power potential from the right side of the plate. Equally important is the 18-year-old Ontario product has a chance to remain at shortstop, where he profiles as a slightly above-average defender, one with the necessary tools to also profile at either second or third base.

"He's certainly impressive with his ability to swing the bat and run -- that's for sure," Graham said, "and we think he has a lot of ability at shortstop. But this fall it was all about getting him the reps and development he missed out on this summer.

    • I think Cal's record was able to happen because of a time in O's history when there was no strong manager.  I doubt Cal's streak would have made it to one season if he had played his whole season under Weaver.  Weaver was way ahead of his time on matchups, platoons and resting players.  The  bigger thing about Cal's streak, imo was that it was allowed to happen, where it took on a life of it's own, dwarfing the team.  I'm not diminishing the feat, but there's rarely a player that plays 162 games in a year now.  It's just recognized that people wear down and need rest.  I want to say to that probably the 5 players behind Cal on the streak list did things to basically cheat and prolong their streak especially Gehrig, where he would hit once and then not play the rest of the game.
    • Goes right back to Ted Williams. Get a good pitch to hit and drive it.
    • There was an attempt to debunk this article in the other O'Hearn thread where it's the OP, but in it O'Hearn explains that his efforts to change launch angle and severely limit when he swings underlie the improved performance since coming to the Orioles.
    • I'm thinking that Suarez can be that extra high leverage arm the O's need.  Someone who can take some of the closing pressure off Kimbrel.  No, Hyde, the closer doesn't have to get every save.  I hate when Hyde uses every high leverage arm in a single game then the next game you just have the B squad.
    • Would have been nice for his campaign if he had been allowed to go 8 or even go for the shutout.
    • He looked much more pull happy when he was up, with bigger leg lift. In the minors he seem to handle pitches away much better, taking them to left and left center.
    • I've got to think that as long as we keep winning we trade for some bullpen help.  Kimbrel is fine and it's good that he's a vet that figure stuff out in between outings, but he's 35 and can't be relied on for nearly the same workload as we leaned on Felix for.
