Brooks always told me Manny made plays he couldnt make, he's a big Manny fan.

I would expect Brooks to say that. I don't necessarily believe it, but I expect him to say that. He's as humble as they come.

I'm telling you guys, I really believe that Machado will be staying  with the Orioles beyond this season.

I believe that he has a sense for/of history, and staying with your original team ........ ESPECIALLY staying with your original team when they are struggling ........ is about as admirable as it gets in terms of one's personal legacy.

The Orioles are a mid-market team, and I don't think that they can outbid the highest bidders if it came to that. But if they offer him a fair deal (perhaps $27 or $28 Million per year, instead of the $30 to $32 Million per year that teams like the Yankees, the Red Sox, and the Dodgers will probably be offering him), he just might go for it.

Manny had 1-2 years that were as good as any Brooks had defensively.    And yes, he can make some plays Brooks couldn’t make.    But for year in, year out truly excellent defense, give me Brooks.

I'd love to see them sign him and Schoop long term but it takes two to tango.  Second preference would be the Mike Bordick trade and sign in the offseason method...that's the best outcome for the team but carries a lot more risk.

Brooks talked Manny up earlier. On the phone. Manny owes him.

Brooks also said Manny should have stayed at third and attributed part of the Orioles struggle this season to the infield upheaval.

there is an occasional outrageous thought I have that is similar to this.   I think that the old man might just say only to himself..."You know what...to heck with it...I am 89 years old...I really don't care about it...I am going for it"  and first allow Duquette to trade Manny, telling Manny and Dan that this is to get max value back for the next seasons, then give a major extension for Schoop, and then tell Manny and his agent before he is traded..."you give me a chance to beat whatever the MFYs or Dodgers want to pay you because you are an Oriole, son and because you and Jonathan are going to lead this team for the next decade."

And then pay him the largest contract in major league history.
