But if Santander can hold down CF then releasing Broxton is an option. That's why I asked. Then you have Mancini, Santander, Stewart, and Smith/Broxton in the OF, Wilkerson at second (if Villar leaves), and that guy at first with Nunez/Sisco at DH.

Santander has really poor burst speed which will end up making him a below average center fielder, not to mention he has almost no experience there. For this year though, I wouldn't care if he was playing out there instead of Broxton.

He was good last year with the Orioles. He has been great with Norfolk this year, .303/.413/.558. He is exactly the type of player that should be up now so the Orioles can figure out what they have with him. He walks a lot and hits for enough power that he could be a reasonable corner outfielder / DH piece.

Ok, I agree with that. Thanks.

Since our management is so metrics oriented, rest assured they must have a precise mathematical definition of what does and does not constitute "a groove", and historical numbers backing up the benefit of not bringing a player up before he has met the Groove Criteria.

Trust the process.

Or, maybe they just don't want to bring up someone while they are struggling in the minors.

This. Santander in CF isn't a longterm solution, but would be on board with him there to get Stewart on the roster and in the lineup.

Since the Orioles are placing more emphasis on defense, Santander is not going to be the CF! Broxton handles defense . . . for now!

With an OF of Santander, [Hays, when ready], and Mancini, why would the Orioles be so stupid to bring up Stewart, just to sit on the bench!

Davis should be the focus of the player who needs to go (move Mancini to 1B and Stewart in RF].

Mancini and Smith in the outfield say Hi!

There are some OH'ers here who would say it is Smith and/or Broxton who are doing the blocking. Speaking of which, was there anything like a conclusion about Santander's ability to play CF?

He is blocking Trey from being at 1st base. Hate to see some hasbeen being used when a younger player may be the answer at 1st. IMO

I think it's because of the high probability that Davis is going nowhere until his contract runs out that makes me not bring him up more. Obviously, he's the one doing the most damage to our progress right now. Smith, to me, doesn't do anything well enough to justify being here. He's not even a bench player IMO. I'd much rather see Stewart.

Broxton isn't even on my radar right now just because he's really good in CF (the only one) and is fine as a DR/PR/4th OF guy. I feel the same about Martin at SS, really. Both bring some utility to the team despite not being able to hit. Smith doesn't bring any from what I can see and Davis brings even less than that, but it's not realistic to expect Davis to be gone any time soon despite him being the most obvious choice to be rid of. For me, there is the added displeasure that Davis represents a part of our past that we are trying to move away from and he represents the clusterf- FO that got us in this mess. I can only hope Elias will cut that tether eventually.. if he's allowed to.

If Roch is actually sort of criticizing a player, you know he might be gone soon. This happens almost never .

Dwight Smith Jr. is hitless this month and in an 0-for-26 slump. His energy level seems to be dipping, though he might be pushing through some leg soreness. I’m sure he knows that slowing up and reaching for his batting helmet on a bang-bang play at first base is a bad look.

As for Davis,it is not about finances.? Too funny. He is a beast. He will either turn green or make a lot more green.

The Orioles remain committed to Davis beyond the finances. They’ll keep working to unlock the beast.

As if the Orioles are committed to Davis for any other reason except finances. This ridiculous line makes it seem like if they weren't paying Davis a zillion dollars, that they'd still be keeping him. Come on, Roch.

I would think it would be better not to mention him at all.

    • 2nd in AL CYA 8 IP of 1 run ball in the playoffs What more could he have done?  Maybe if we let him go those extra 5+ IP in the regular season then he lands on the IL.  We still would've been in the WC round anyway.   We should've let him DH over Adley, I guess.
    • I'm not sure that is it - just hasn't had enough opportunities to be a regular in the lineup. He is placed in the high leverage situations out of desperation for platoon advantage.
    • Yes, Elias' Waltimore cost the Orioles two runs yesterday and took one away from the Royals.
    • Its just on the other side of the Ravens stadium. Not a bad walk. Parked there in regular season, went game 2 and it was free. Went later in the summer is was $5. As someone coming from Delaware, its perfect because I can pull right out and go to the light and turn left on 295 and be heading home without having to zig zag through all the side streets that you have to do when parking in stadium lots.
    • Around the trading deadline, the Royals went and got Lucas Erceg from the A's for P Mason Barnett (minors), Jared Dickey (minors) and P Will Klein.  Looking at those three prospects, two were pitchers with Barrett being the best prospect of them all but was more on the 4th/5th starter level.  Elias went cheap and went for Dominguez by trading away Hays. Erceg immediate became the closer and pitched well: Notice the no home runs allowed and all top it all he's never allowed a stolen base while on the mound. Only one guy even attempted it and was caught. Seems like the perfect match to be a closer, no home runs, he misses bats, throw 99 MPH, and you can't steal off him.  Elias went out and got Seranthony Dominguez who was then made closer, then lost it.  Dominguez, who has always had a homer problem, allowed 6 in just 22.2 innings, and base runners are 21 for 23 in their career running off him.  He did only blow one save opportunity but allowed two walk off home runs. There are two points I'd like to make. One, it took pitching prospects to get a good relief pitcher and two, Erceg was the kind of reliever the Orioles should have been targeting at the trade deadline.
    • No, I'm not missing the point. I really kind of addressed it when I said he can do what he wants in his free time and we're allowed to say things like Instagram videos with his girlfriends are stupid.   Asking questions isn't proving points, or making points.  Like I said, it's borderline conspiracy theory...trying to find reasoning when reasoning isn't readily visible.  That's why we're upset here, because he's suddenly gone off a cliff and we're searching for answers because there's no obvious injury, right? But like I said, we can't call him a good leader and extol all his virtues and then turn right around and wonder if he's easily distracted.  It's either one or the other...and we've been praising him about his leadership qualities ever since he came up.  And now we want to wonder if he's distracted?  By a girl? I know you're not saying it's definitely the case, but I think it's silly that anyone would suggest a girlfriend is the possible reason he's not working as hard and he's not watching as much tape (I'm addressing your point here, to be clear) and he's not the leader he once was and the reason why he's lost .100 points in OPS from '23.  IMO, he looks out of shape.  He looks like he's gained weight.  Kind of hard to tell if that's good weight or bad weight, but he just doesn't look the same. That said, weight gain doesn't explain why his plate approach has gone to ****.  A girlfriend doesn't explain that, either.
    • Urias didn’t hit well down the stretch. He had a 654 OPs after coming back.
