I’ll wait to pass judgement. He has bulked up which obviously required some effort or work on his part, but did he do his own thing or did he take direction from the organization? Hopefully he found motivation somewhere to put in the work. However he hasn’t shown over the last couple years since the contract that he’s willing hopefully  he found that willingness. If so it should show this spring in camp.

He’s had three years to take direction from the organization, three years to “find motivation” and he hasn’t. The money is his whether he earns it or not, and there is absolutely no doubt that he is not earning it. The powers apparently want to give him another year to not earn it, and that is their choice. I am in the “release him yesterday” camp, and I have seen no reason to reconsider.

I understand let’s wait and see how he does this spring let’s hope the new regime was able to have a positive impact on him. Maybe new leadership could be able figure out what motivates him and was able to get more effort out of him this offseason then the previous regime.

I don’t see releasing him making a huge difference this year in the win loss column. With the service clock issue with Mountcastle and the money invested in Davis let’s see if he can show some improvements but if not when it comes time that Mountcastle and others need everyday at bats yearly to mid summer and his presence hindering them and there no improvement then I think they cut him but not before then. I think this just the more realistic scenario with all the money invested in the guy the last thing ownership wants to year from the new regime is to cut the guy they invested in 160 mill in instead I’m sure The regime is saying we can do this to get better results out of him.

I do not want to release him because it will make a difference in the record this year, although it might, because it would allow for a better player to take his spot in the lineup. I want them to release him because he’s embarrassing. He’s not just bad, he’s making no effort to be better. If he is making an effort to be better, he’s still bad, And he’s still embarrassing. He’s bad for morale. How many guys are working really hard and falling asleep at night saying to themselves, “I am working my butt off, and Davis is doing whatever he wants and still has a spot.” They aren’t saying, “I wish I could be better than Davis so I could deserve his spot.”

And everybody knows it. It is the biggest elephant in the room. It is dishonest to keep him. Yes I understand your point, but it’s too Late to expect any reasonable production from him. It’s not impossible, nothing is impossible, but it is unlikely enough that it is unreasonable to continue hoping, and it is foolish to continue expecting.
