My ol' buddy who lives in Montana -- but sure knows his American League history -- swears to me that Earl Weaver was known to give post-game locker-room interviews while buck naked and smoking a cigarette.

True?

I don't know about Earl other than the beer and smoke. Which were constant.  William Showalter got his nickname by his clubhouse attire.

With all of that color, and all of that style and all of those umpire-baiting moments (not to mention the chain-smoking and his well-known penchant for conducting post game interviews in the nude — back in the clubhouse, of course), Weaver will never be forgotten by anyone who ever saw him manage.

"Deadline-aware writers, seeking him out in his office shortly after another last out, would often find him behind his desk gnawing on a chicken wing, sans uniform and undies: a five-foot-seven, birthday-suited unsentimentalist still alight with the complexities and hovering alternate possibilities of the trifling game we’d all just attended."

It's even a better picture with the chicken wing!  lol

If standing on my lawn drinking a cold beer, holding a cigarette between my pointer and middle finger, gnawing on a chicken wing, while nude, except for maybe a low-hanging Orioles t-shirt - - where only the southern hemispheres might be seen by passersby - - would scare away all the dog people that don't pick up after their k-9's, I think I might employ that methodology of communicating with interested -- or uninterested - -parties as they pass by. ;)

Unsentimentalists unite!

No way Earl was anywhere 5’7”. At Earls statue day Buck towered over him.

    • I feel like the whole pity party for Norby is a bit much. He’s 23 and not a top 100 prospect in any of the major lists. He’s a subpar fielder limited to 2B and LF. He’s tied for 88th best hitter in AAA with a 108 wRC+. He has a 32% strikeout rate and bad Statcast peripherals.  The Banner throws around comments about how Norby would be starting for most other teams, but I don’t think that’s true. There’s maybe a couple teams where he might be considered for a chance to start. He doesn’t need to be added to the 40 man until end of year. I don’t think the Orioles would hesitate to trade him for reasonable value, but we need to find a taker. If we can’t get back someone that could be a difference maker in the bullpen, then he might be worth more to us as depth.   The narrative around how Norby is tragically and unfairly blocked in AAA from sure-fire MLB success due to Elias slow playing prospects and hoarding is completely overblown IMO.
    • Well we'll see how it plays out in the next two games. If he needs Cano, Coulombe, and Kimbrel again today, they will be unavailable in game 3 and Hyde will have nobody but himself to blame for that.
    • Haha, yeah we would be 162-0 without him. Not just the best record in AL for past 200 games.
    • Naw man, Hyde's a total f@#!ing idiot and @dystopiais the only one who sees him for the fraud that he truly is.  Truly competent managers make late-game decisions based on 'what-if' worst-case scenarios for the following day's game in early May of the regular season.  Complete imbecile, that Hyde.
    • Seems a little hyperbolic.
    • I am still gobsmacked Hyde yanked Irvin for no reason given Means is pitching today. You can't expect him to give you any length just coming off an injury. Breathtaking stupidity unless there was some kind of injury and I haven't heard anything to suggest that.
    • I believe Means is starting today. Was swapped in for Suarez.
