I'm Ready for Mountcastle and Diaz: Mountcastle Up, Diaz Still Waiting

What’s keeping us from bringing these guys up at this point?  Let’s see what they can do!

At this point the only explanation to me is Elias doesn't want to win too many games and not get a top pick. We've passed the service time deadline. 

I'd park Davis on the bench and have Mountcastle and Nunez share at bats at 1st and at DH. Dwight Smith can go too and Diaz is the everyday LF

A couple other things come to mind.  Mountcastle could be sick or injured.  He could be having behavioral issues that they need to get ahead of.  Scenarios exist but it's odd.

I'd be curious to take a look at those guys as much as anyone else but I don't think Mountcastle and Diaz hold the keys to a bunch of wins and screwing ourselves out of a top pick.

Agreed. For all we know, one or both could be in the COVID protocol.

Anythings possible. I would have hoped if there we behavioral concerns they would have been addressed prior to him being on the cusp of the mlb but who knows

Diaz has had all of half a good season at AA, has not even cracked AAA. I don't see any rush to bring him up as long as Santander is productive. Hays gets a long leash. Are you really going to burn a year of service time for perhaps 10-15 games of development in a platoon role? 

Mountcastle makes more sense. I don't know what the holdup is. Maybe just trying to give Valaika, Mullins, and Smith as much run as possible before we have to go to 28?

I mean, I don't work in the field but it seems to me it would make for an interesting topic.

It’s getting on negligence not having Mountcastle up. Sure play some time games if you want but we have to be close to the point of hurting his development not having him face legitimate competition.

His numbers were fine last year.  You need to adjust for league and park.

I haven't been keeping up, but what are MLB ready prospects like Mountcastle doing not to lose their edge with no organized games this year.
