The owners really should be looking big picture.  Just keep everyone in AAA until they are out of options.

I’m not worried about him not hitting, I just hope that he doesn’t turn into Mark Trumbo. The CBS Sports article that I read this morning, which is where I first got the news, specifically pointed out that he “doesn’t offer much other than his bat” But Smith and the gang have made the bar very low.

 

edit: Is Mountcastle’s defense supposed to be better than Stewart’s? I don’t remember hearing anything specific about Stewart’s Defense, but it hasn’t looked very good.Defense, but it hasn’t looked very good.

Make it a policy that everyone has to spend a full year at every minor league stop.  You know, to respect the integrity of the minor league pennant races and ensure maximum development of all skills.  It's all about the small town fans and getting the max out of each player as a valued person.

Somewhat similar to a Denny Bautista'ing, which is giving a top prospect two innings to prove themselves before trading them for a morally suspect 36-year-old middle reliever.

So you're worried about the low OBP/not great defense guy not becoming Mark Trumbo.  Interesting.

Specifically I was referring to Trumbo’s 47 homer season where his defense was so bad it canceled out his offense and resulted in a 101 WRC and a low 2.2 WAR.

Right now I'd take a player with 2.2 WAR and 101 WRC.  That's a slightly above average player.

No doubt. But he was 2.2 because his defense was so ruinously bad. I am expressing a fervent hope that MC will be better.
