Playing in San Diego will do that to a hitter. It was the third-worst ballpark in the majors for hits.

By OPS+, he had a better offensive season than 2013 and about equal with 2014 and 2017.

hindsight is always 20-20.

Nelson is one failed drug test away from a long time off from the game of baseball too.

I also think most people are surprised, he still playing at this skill level as he has aged.

He's definitely the exception to the rule these days.   There are FAR fewer position players drawing major league salaries in the 38+ age group than there was 20 years ago.

Correct.

I didnt mean to imply he was, but, he was a risk when this team signed him.
