#16 2020 Prospect: Carter Baumler - RHP

Nice to hear the tidbits on Baumler from the Instructional League.  I know folks are going to point out the nature of what is reported is overwhelmingly positive, and they are right, of course.  Still, this last draft was performed with heavy analytics and without in person or in competition video for the spring 2020 season in college and HS baseball and without in-person workouts.  IMO, the positive comments are an early vindication of our draft strategy and the two HS prospects we invested big $ in with the expectation that they were essentially second or third round talents.  The early word from various quotes from Matt Blood is that Mayo and Baumler are who we thought/hoped they were or better.

I got curious to see what’s up with Baumler and found his Twitter feed.  There’s a video there from June 9 showing him throwing off a mound — only 72 mph but presumably not pushing it that early (his surgery was last November).   Hopefully he’s a little further along by now.   For some reason I can’t embed the tweet or a link directly to the tweet, but you can find his account here and just scroll down to June 9.   https://mobile.twitter.com/CarterBaumler

Looks like his younger brother is a pitcher too.   Lots of retweets of stuff about him.

Yep.

I'm fine with it.  Nothing to gain by rushing the process.

Hopefully he'll be full go by the spring.

He's be 15 months out from surgery next February so I expect he should be a full rehab go by spring training. they'll probably limit his innings next year to around 75 total I'd imagine so they could either slow start him or pitch him 2 to 3 innings at first.

Way off the OP, but who was the best athlete who pitched for the Orioles? Mike Mussina, Ken Dixon, Mike Boddicker and Ben McDonald come to mind for me. Sidney Ponson? ?

If you had watched Palmer in batting practice back in the day you would say him.

He was every bit as good a outfielder as Blair. My opinion
