Stiven Acevedo

I decided young Stiven Acevedo was thread worthy.   He was one of Elias’ first high bonus signings ($300 k I think), at the age of 16, shortly after Elias arrived.   He’s one of the younger players in the FCL, 17th youngest among the top 100 batters listed on BB-ref, having just turned 19 two weeks ago.

Anyway, Acevedo hit a three run shot today, his third homer in August (in 9 games played), and he’s now hitting .308/.375/.462.   Seems like he’s coming into his own power-wise after posting a .052 ISO in the DSL in 2019.  Could be a fun guy to follow.

Some folks claim that the the prior regime accomplished nothing in the international market.

My view is they did as well as they could given ownership constraints.

Be tough to find one person who would disagree with your second sentence.  I can't think of anything they could hang their hat onto regarding the Latin American market besides possibly Peralta but their last class could turn out to be their best if Acevedo and/or Ramirez turn into something.

As I recall Acevedo signed in May 2019 for $ 275,000.

I remember some folks said if he had waited until July 2 he would have gotten closer to $1,00,000.

Elias signed some internationals before July 2, 2019.  Acevedo got the biggest bonus and looks like the best.

I remember he is 6'4", plays centerfield and was stealing some bases and occasional power.  He might be on Tony's Top 50 list. Tony said he stood out at the Instructs last Fall.

Pretty sure Acevedo and Moises Ramirez, who is also doing quite well,  were both signed under the previous regime.

Acevedo was signed in January after Elias and Perez started.

This regime has been high on him since he signed:

Outfielder Stiven Acevedo, who the Orioles signed for $275,000 late in last year’s international signing period, is still just 16 and holding his own in the Dominican Summer League. The Orioles feel they got a steal, as Acevedo was just old enough to sign in last year’s period but could have gotten a seven-figure bonus if he signed this year.”
