Elias needs to be careful because his interview was spreading something very dangerous called hope.  I personally hope he trades and signs real players this winter and we can look forward to a better team next year, but my gut tells me Elias isn’t ready to pull the trigger yet and was simply spreading hope to calm the negativity around this team in the short term.

I think all 30 GM's can only do so much until they learn the new economics and rules of the road, though I am confident David Price at 1/16 will be underwater anyway you cut it.     The Jonathan Schoops and Travis D'Arnauds of the world who have locked in at about 7.5M - other similar players probably oscillate if floor is 100 and cap 180, or floor is 150 and cap is 270.

We're all used to some before Christmas action, but I think no CBA means the hot stove isn't just cold, it will be off.   It'll take patience staring at those 11x losses all through the holidays, but by accident we might end up with a compressed fun NBA-style release of temporarily pent up demand come January or February.

The sons might not finalize for Elias if they have 2022 MLB flexibility for say Hamels at 5, Syndergaard at 10 or Correa at 25 until they know the CBA outcome.

We are the worst team in the MLB. I don’t see how that changes in 2022. Promoting AR, and Jahmai Jones, doesn’t change that. Look at the Bowie roster. There is our hope. 
 

I see AR coming up sometime in 2022 but I doubt OD, unless the CBA changes. Even with a CBA change I don’t think you have Grod skip AAA in a year where we won’t be good anyway. I think 2022 will be a year for him to work in AAA with the MLB ball and build his IP. 
 

The best we can hope for is that we get the #1 pick in 2022. Finish out this year “strong”. And unlike this year, some players make the most of their opportunities and flash potential at the MLB level for 2023, but even with that we are looking at a top 5 pick in 2023. So you start 2023 with the current group that is in Bowie ready to go, and picking top 5 in the draft. It’ll be very similar to 2012 when we made the playoffs and still drafted Dylan Bundy.  
 

I agree that we should trade Mancini, and whatever relievers return fair value, but I wouldn’t give the relievers away. I think we’re close to having a “good” bullpen, but a bullpen can only be so good before it burns out because the SP. 

 

Its looking like we have the bats and bullpen to compete in 2023, but we need a rotation.

Your schtick is so old, man.   3 drafts and trades for guys who hadn't played a game yet in the minors.  One lost year to Covid for most minor leaguers.    Did you think Cedric Mullins was a future piece at this time last year?    Maybe Hays breaks out next year.  Maybe McKenna comes up and makes a name.  I know we are putting a lot of depth together in the minors.   We are starting to see good potential future pieces at Norfolk and Bowie with more pieces behind them.     Keep on with the dead horse.   You can't help it and the horse doesn't care.     Did Mike Elias kick your dog?

Do you think that it isn't a bad sign that three years in we have Mullins, Means and Mountcastle?

Will all the crap that he and Dan have thrown on the wall shouldn't something more have stuck?

You're not wrong. Maybe Hays becomes a piece. Maybe Tyler Wells and Zimmerman. 

Clearly there's more talent in the minor league system and International is beginning to get where it needs to be. 

But I'm not sure why more funds haven't been devoted to the ML team. Not $50M+ contracts, but guys you can sign on a 1 or 2 year contract that might become a healthy trade chip. 

I get the "all in" and "no half measures" but seems like to build a talent pipeline, you also need ML assets to trade, and since we don't have much in that area, why not sign some guys?

My take is that this is more reflective of what Elias inherited than the job he’s done.
