Why not?

Sherrill or JJ and Scott for Sonnanstine would be very solid trade for us.

If we did that and traded Olson and Walker for Pie and Marquis, they would be 2 pretty good trades for us.

I'm on board, fwiw. Those are actually very realistic sounding trades, and they make sense in combination - even better if you can get Chi to throw in Cedeno.

Walker has negative value.

Penn or Olson by himself wouldnt get you Andrus.

It would have to be Spoone/Patton plus Liz/Mickolio/Sherrill or more to get Andrus.

He is their #1 prospect.

Feliz is the Rangers #1 prospect.

Trade Roberts and Sherrill for Floyd, Getz, Brandon Allen, and Eduardo Escobar

Trade Scott for Donald

Trade Olson for Pie, Marquis, and $4 M

Trade Huff and Beato for Wood and Trumbo

Overall:

O's deal: Huff (DH/1B/3B), Roberts (2B), Scott (LF), Olson (SP), Sherrill (RP), and Beato (SP)

O's get: Floyd (SP), Marquis (SP), Donald (SS), Getz (2B), Wood (3B), Pie (LF/CF), Trumbo (1B), Allen (1B), and Escobar (SS)

O's get 2 starters for '09, including Floyd for the long-term, ML-ready 2B, SS, and 3B, 2 near ML-ready DH/1B, and a low-level SS with very good defense.

*-I'd also do the Ramon for Freel trade if we can. Freel can be a UTIL guy a 2B, 3B, and the OF. Wood could spell Donald as SS occasionally or we could add a 2nd UTIL-type guy.

I actually thought I saw him as their #3 prospect but I could be wrong. Assuming you are saying it would take two pitchers from above I dont think we are worlds apart. Penn and Olson have at least have some ML experience. I guess I don't see how any of the names are much more exciting. The Rangers need immediate help on the ML level. Which is why I suggested ML ready players.

How about Olson, Penn and Walker?

Here is the lastest I found which is fresh and actually has him 4th.

Look who is 3rd. Too bad we didnt have the opportunity to draft him. Oh wait....

Oh yeah! What a bad decision! Who's the #20 prospect in all of baseball according to this list? Who's not even in the top 50?

Andrus was ranked in the Top 20 minor league prospects for 2008. He didnt do much to drop his stock, it is just the other players ahead of him now just have more talent.

What do you not understand about Walker having negative trade value? You cant include him in a deal for any prospect. Moving Walker would be in a salary dump for salary dump deal.

Olson and Penn have pitched at the major league level, though fairly poorly. Penn is out of options and could be obtained off waivers if the Orioles try to outright him. Olson is being talked about being traded for Pie, who isnt as good as Andrus.

I mention Spoone and Patton because both were highly regarded pitching prospects before their injuries and both have 3 options. I bring up the point of the young relief pitchers as well.

The Rangers aren't lining-up for a run this year. They will look to 2010 when Feliz and Holland will likely get their first full-season shot. Olson could have value to them, but not at the expense of Andrus (who could also get his firts full season shot in 2010). Walker is a non-issue, as the Rangers don't need a lefty-specialist now and they have plenty of young arms to shift to the pen when the time comes.

Now, something I haven't heard at all but makes perfect sense to me would be to move an arm or two to try and pry a 1B/C away from TEX. Something like:

Olson

for

Max Ramirez (1B/DH/C)

Personally, I'd rather try and do that than move Olson for Pie -- BAL may have to toss in an arm like Bergesen or Penn, as well. Depends on player valuations for TEX. That gives you a 1B/DH if Teix isn't in BAL, as well as a capable back-up C that won't kill you offensively when Wieters sits.

I don't see Andrus being made available. He'll be the youngest kid at AAA next year and profiles as a true All-star SS. I have him as the Rangers #2 prospect behind Feliz and in front of Holland.
