Odds are good that none of them will be any good and losing any of them effect nothing on this team.

So, wtf?  Take the chance on the younger players.  Velez could be better than Scott THIS year.  It’s possible.

Did I say they shouldn't have done it?

NOPE.

And yes, of course any random pitcher that can make a 40 man rosters COULD be better than Scott THIS year.  Man you are stating the obvious today.

This, some of you all are acting like the Orioles traded away good players. Not guys who blew plenty of leads on their own last year (especially Scott). The replacements might not be any better, but it's not like these were two dependable above average options.

Trade also clears space on the 40 man

I don't think anyone is suggesting they shouldn't have made this trade.

I'm not getting that from anyone.

Just accepting that they've got two more holes in the bullpen to fill on short notice.

I don't consider any ML player with a positive career WAR "Bad".

I guess I'm not as hard on players as some folks.

Ok? I mean they have to do enough to get traded. They aren't worthless, but the pen is not worse without Scott in it. Sulser sure but he's had two TJS and one good ML season so who knows what he will do this year.

The pen COULD be worse without Scott.  It’s just dumb to act as if that’s a definite.

Wonder why the Marlins need a 27 yo lefty reliever with command issues and a 32 yo journeymen reliever ?

Their closer, Dylan Floro, won't be ready for the start of the season. Their setup guys really aren't that good either.

But the guys for those spots are super interesting: Baker, Perez, Bautista, Baumann - all fun interesting options IMO. Let's get these young guys in here. We're gonna lose a lot of games, to me a slightly less stable pen featuring more upside guys with big arms does not negatively affect my enjoyment. It actually increases it.

I don't think they have more upside than Scott.  Even at this point.

Once again, I'm fine with the deal.

I think Perez replaces Scott taking the role as hard throwing lefty with command issues. Now maybe Scott has a better year then Perez, but I think it's certainly debatable. But I think you think more of Scott then I do

Sulser is the bigger piece IMO, but it's not that unlikely that someone like Bauman, Bautista, or Baker has a better year, and there are only so many 1 inning specialist righty roles to go around

The deal makes sense for Miami.  They got upside relievers.

It’s the same for Miami as it is for the Os.  It’s a deal where Miami could have gotten off cheap to get 2 relievers that could provide good upside for them.

If they get guys like this in July, they pay more (if they are producing at a high level).

Both teams decided to take a deal that gave them the best odds right now…the Marlins got 2 guys who could help them and didn’t have to give up any of their better prospects and the Os turned 2 guys who could end up being terrible into 2 intriguing prospects, a potentially very valuable pick and another player.

Its medium risk, medium reward for each side.
