I think I saw that exchange.  Basically, he wasn't going to admit to being wrong about what the Orioles have done to have a season like this.  He keeps banging the anti-tanking drum and won't let up.

I get where he's coming from, it does suck to a certain extent.  But what I hate even more is a team trying to spend money in free agency in order to appear like they're trying to win and failing miserably.  That's not a long-term plan for success.  I think I replied to Olney in that exchange that I remember the Raffy 2.0, Tejada and Javy Lopez Orioles and how miserable that was, too, and of course he didn't reply.  I mean, if I were a Rangers fan this year I'd be IRATE.  They've got a decent system but what are they going to do when Leiter, Rocker, Winn, etc get called up and they've got half a billion tied up in two players?

Anyway, Olney has been dragged on twitter by Orioles fans for most of the summer and it's fantastic.  I hope they don't let up.

Yep, that was the exchange. I was wondering if some of the other people in that discussion were OH’ers. Way to fight the good fight!

I agree totally with you. It sucks that tanking is effective. But I also strongly believe that it was the only way forward for the Orioles. And I like most of y’all hated the early naught Oriole teams that spent just enough on the free agent market to get fewer draft picks, but still stink.

Elias is a hard ass. I want a stone cold killer as GM, not someone who believes in pipe dreams or spouts Pollyanna bs.

Favorite Oriole player in a year or two? The Orioles are going to make this difficult! the Orioles have so many good young players who seem very likable. Gunnar bobble hard night is going to be big.

Looking like there really could be a surplus of position player in 2 to 3 three years that could then be spun off to acquire an ace starter or other missing piece.

I wonder if it will be without a helmet…

I learned a ton watching him today.  The kid is fearless and carries himself like a big leaguer.   You can see all the tools are there.   Honestly, I was even impressed by him spoiling an 0-2 pitch and have it carry almost all the way to the LF fence, and by some of the pitches he spat on.  It’s only one game, but he looks like the complete package.

I learned he is a big man. It was interesting watching him go through the handshake line at the end of the game. He towered over several players and I think the mountain was the only taller player.

Him and Stowers look about the same height. Gunnar noticeably thicker.

I mentioned in a game thread recently that Stowers resembled a young Owen Wilson. A buddy of mine was watching tonight's game with me and he thought Gunnar's locks gave him an Owen Wilson look. The Wilson Brothers in Baltimore. What a world.

Holy cow.  What a debut!  I had to watch the game recorded and my phone kept pinging, so I had an idea it was a special game.  That was so fun to watch.  He is going to be an incredible player.  Put all tools on display: his poise, his eye, his arm, his speed, his hitting ability, and his power.  Now I expect he is going to have some adjustments to make and the league will catch up, but this kid sure looks special.  Seems like he has the 'it' factor and the game is slow to him.  There were a couple times you could see on his face when he was like 'whoa' that was something I haven't seen....Odors 110mph laser behind him, Bakers (I think)95mph cutter dotted on the outside black, but look like he took it in stride and just logged the info.  His ABs are must watch TV moving forward :)

    • Burnes and Rodriguez have to be lights out and we need DC to come back and be the excellent pitcher he has been but we also know he’s not a 5-6 inning saves guy. It’s hard to envision us winning an AL pennant, much less a WS, relying on Kimbrel in the highest of leverage situations and a lot of innings going to guys like Irvin, Kremer and Cano.
    • If the O's investigate Bauer and find nothing criminal in his background and believe he will not be a negative influence in the clubhouse, then no problem signing him to a one year deal for the league minimum.  Bauer is hungry, he has shown in the past he can pitch well and the O's need help in the rotation.   Every time a proposal is made for a starting pitcher, quite a few people balk at including a top prospect.  Giving Bauer an audition for a month allows the O's to possibly add a huge upgrade to the rotation at zero cost in prospects.   A month from now, if Bauer is not the answer, the O's can then trade an elite prospect to upgrade the rotation.  Having the three spots in the rotation filled by Kraemer, Povich, Irvin and Suarez isn't going to be good enough the rest of the season. At least in the last sexual assault allegation against Bauer, the accuser was eventually found to have made it up.
    • 101 K in 70 IP in AAA. He’s 2nd in all of milb in K. We pound the table for our hitting prospects like Kjerstad and Norby, why not McDermott?   We can back off Suarez and put him in the pen. Heck, we could go back to Suarez in a few weeks if we need to, but this would be a load management move. Suarez threw some innings in winter ball too. It looks like that is adding up.
    • From Fansided: 3 Orioles trade packages working together to overtake Yankees in AL East
    • I’m only trading Basallo for Webb + Doval the closer. Basallo has done things at 19 that names like Acuna and Soto have done. RC+ in AA at 19. Rare company.
    • Maton was just a temp move while Westburg was banged up. Remember we had been rotating Ljerstad and Stowers through AAA/MLB to keep them getting regular ABs.  Really a vet RH OF that can play CF fits this role much better. If Daniel Johnson were RH he’d be up. If Daz Cameron were still here, he’d be up.
