Game Notes

  • Today's game will determine whether the Orioles have a winning or losing homestand, as they are 2-2 so far.  They are 17-17 at home for the entire season, so a win tonight would make them a winning home team heading into the 10 game road trip to Chicago, Seattle, and Minnesota.
  • Both lefty hitters are sitting, so we have an all righthanded lineup vs the LH Corbin.   We will probably not see another LH pitcher until next Tuesday night in Seattle when Robbie Ray will likely pitch.
  • In the Nationals' 16 seasons in existence, the Orioles have won the season series 8 times, it has been split 6 times, and the Nationals have won only twice (2007 and 2018).   If the Orioles are to win the 4 game season series this year, they must win tonight's game.
  • If tonight's game is rained out, it would almost certainly be made up in conjunction with the Orioles' 2 game series at Washington on Tue Sept 13 and Wed Sept 14.   Both teams have the rare double off day that week, as neither team plays Mon Sept 12 or Thu Sept 15, and one of those days would be chosen for the makeup.
  • The Orioles next home game will be the 4th of July game vs the Rangers.

To expand on this point, in the 68 previous seasons the Orioles have been in existence, here are the results of the Baltimore Washington season series:

-- Baltimore won the season series 24 times
-- The two teams split the season series 7 times
-- There was no season series 35 times when Washington had no baseball team.
-- Washington won the season series a grand total of THREE times:  1965, 2007, and 2018.

How's the weather in Baltimore?  On and off thunderstorms here in Richmond but I think they are heading southeast.

OK for now but rain supposed to be coming through sometime after 8.   I expect we will see the tarp on the field before this night is over.
