I predict this kid is the #1 overall pick this year.   Not one early mock has him going there.  BA has him at 3.  Law had him around 8.  Others in between.   Remember the name.  6’6, 235, chiseled.  A smooth and easy 96-99.  Great control.  Good command.   
 

5 games started for LSU so far.  30 ip, 12 hits, 4 walks, 59 strikeouts.  Wowsa!

You'd have to get the other top picks to accept whatever the lower offer was.  So you could sign say a bunch of college seniors for 20K a pop. If a player from the draft pool rounds doesn't sign,

He definitely seems like a beast, but to play devil's advocate a bit, the only real competition he's faced so far is Texas A&M, the rest of the start of the season schedule has been pretty soft. It'll be fun to see where his numbers are in a month or so.

Fair enough but Texas A&M is a good team and he shut them out for 6.1 with 0 walks and 11 k’s.

There is an incredible amount of parity in D1 baseball. Most lineups are tough.  Top 25 schools have 3 legit starters and multiple BP arms.  Smaller schools can match lineups but don’t have the pitching.  What he is doing is very impressive.

By the time the draft rolls around, if not before, I think they'll be talking about him as the best prospect since Strasberg and Gerritt Cole as far as college pitchers go.    Dylan Crews is putting up crazy numbers but there are still questions on how he is against offspeed stuff.    Crews did clean up some stuff I was skeptical about in his stance and load since last year and looks great as well.   Corner outfielder (most likely) with plus hit and power or #1 power pitcher.    I know which one is tougher to find.

The top end of this draft is remarkable. I kind of look at it as having Strasburg and Harper in the same draft (with Crews being closer to MLB). Two elite options. One a pitcher. One a position player. The position player typically is a safer pick.

If Pittsburgh goes Crews, I definitely see Washington go Skenes. If Pittsburgh for some reason goes with someone else, I’m not sure who Washington would take.

      I was hoping that would be this season, but he faded this second half. But even Gunnar not living up to his lofty expectation is still a good player with an .811 OPS.

      Mike Elias simply can't offer Michael Baumann, Cristian Pache, Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers this kind of experience. Jack Flaherty was kind of Meh again, but hey, at least he isn't on Detroit for this weekend. It is a special player to get to watch.    He's reviving some of the Babe Ruth "he hits too brilliantly to let him pitch" stuff, but hombre is going to do whatever he wants to do, it is part of the deal.    It does seem pretty likely the SB to this scale are a 1-time deal with the legs getting the year off from the mound. I do have a baseball-y wish to see if he could be Ken Griffey, Jr. in center field if he tried.

      Hopefully it will be like giving a blood transfusion to a sickly patient. Yes some players haven't played as well this season, but it's mainly the injuries that have taken it's toll. The lineup gets much better if Westburg, Urias and Mountcastle are back. No longer does Eloy have to play and Holliday can be platooned. Plus O'Hearn will absolutely not see at bats against LHP like he has been recently at times. Webb and Coulombe provide depth to make the bullpen postseason viable. And Coulombe can close games instead of Dominguez assuming he's back all the way.

      Gunnar stands to improve on: fielding and stolen bases. I also think he’ll have a 1.000OPS season or two before he’s done.

      looks like some of y'all are gonna be pissed when we win 2 of 3 against Detroit, at least one in NY and 2 o 3 against Minn.  I'd be embarassed if I were some of you....projecting the apathy and misery in your own little lives onto our O's.  This is a F upped sport and a team with talent like this can turn on a dime and start winning consistently at any time.  This isn't over.  I you're mad that your life hasn't worked out well......please don't bring the rest of us down.
