KC is starting a really good pitcher today.

Of the four players referenced, Hicks and O’Hearn are doing significantly better than expected.   Frazier is pretty much exactly where I’d have expected, slightly below is career average at an age where most players have declined a little.  Only McCann has disappointed me among the group mentioned by @Hank Scorpio.

Right, he chose to reference four players as "catching lightning in a bottle" and only two of the four are performing better than would be expected (in a smaller sample size).

I don't think there is any special sauce that's being applied.  (I'm guessing special sauce of a euphemism for PEDS right?)

I guess what I’m saying is with all of these names consistently in the lineup, they are continuing to win.

Individually they are demonstrably bad, yet the collective results are 40-24. It’s fascinating.

I do hear what you’re saying, but not everyone can be a star. We’ve got arguably the most shut down back end bullpen in the game, most of the starting lineup has an OPS+ over 100, we’ve got plus defenders all over the place. The only real weakness is the starting pitching.

It's a day game after a late afternoon game. Why do people think Adley should be in the lineup? The guy looks absolutely gassed, hasn't hit for power in forever. Series is already won. We need to be resting him more than we are IMO.

Tomorrow is an off day. Everyone can rest then.

No. Get this man 2 days off. He needs it. Watch the games. He's not right out there and you're playing with fire by burning him out before the AS break.

Just curious, how many days for the season do you think he should catch, how many should he DH and how many sit totally?

I dunno. I just know there's no reason he should be in today's lineup and I'm glad he's not because he looks gassed. He's been running out infield hits like an animal for a week now. That's unsustainable and he's going to get hurt. Use the eye test.

Think about and let me know if come up with a number. Or would you just use the eye test all season?

Why is McCann DHing so frequently?

If Hyde wants McCann in the lineup so badly, he should be catching with Adley DH.  I really don’t understand Hyde’s thought process there.

My guess is that since he is a well respected vet they told him that his role would be more substantial than simply back up catcher when they traded for him and they are honoring their word.

    • A question precedes #2: when will the left field wall be fixed?  I think I remember Elias saying they probably went too far, which is quite literally true.  No reason they can't fix it quickly.  I had no problem with them moving it back but it is pretty absurd where it is.
    • On #3, I would guess that Elias is very wary about going longer than 3 years for a starting pitcher (maybe four years if pitcher is younger and AAV is favorable).  I think Mike and Sig believe the history of long-term SP deals isn’t favorable and the wrong deal could derail a mid-market team with dead money.  I’m not sure they are wrong (e.g., Patrick Corbin, Strasberg).   I don’t think ownership cares directly; I would guess they just give Elias an annual baseball ops budget and forecast and he can choose how he manages against that.   Not in play Gerrit Cole Corbin Burnes Max Fried Blake Snell Jack Flaherty    Possible free agent targets Yusei Kikuchi Nathan Eovaldi Nick Pivetta Sean Manaea Luis Severino Alex Cobb Max Scherzer Justin Verlander Jose Quintana Frankie Montas Spencer Turnbull Andrew Heaney Matthew Boyd   Possible trade targets Garret Crotchet Sandy Alcantera Jesus Luzardo Eduardo Cabrera Reid Detmers Emerson Hancock Jordan Montgomery Lance McCullers Jr.
    • Is Webb anything special.  I would rather replace Webb with Norfolk shuttle guy.
    • Our SS is Gunnar, our CF in this scenario would be Cowser, and C is Adley. Hopefully none of those guys are in contention for being the team's worst hitter next season. We don't need a power bat in LF - we need to add a good contact bat, that can use all fields and run.
    • Kemp was part of it but bringing back 2 UTIL IF is blocking your best prospect when your manager covets veteranosity. If they aren’t resigned then Holliday gets a longer leash.
    • LF is a bit of a waste of a spot for #9 hitter.  Its not a premium defensive position so you shoudl be able to get a decent bat who can also play there.  If you're worst hitter isn't an SS, C or CF, either you're contending for a WS , or something isn't quite right.  And this team isn't quite WS contenders just yet.
    • A lot could change between now and then, but right now he's the 4th starter. I like Povich more than most around here and think he can be a solid 4th starter. He may have been command days, but he doesn't get hit hard.  The cool new Baseball Savant chart shows his fastball and curve and have above average movement and is why his slightly below average velocity (.9 MPH below MLB avg for LHP) plays up a bit.
