If I were him I'd go for a two year deal, with the second year to prove he can pitch again. If successful he would be in line again for a $500M contract.

It is still a hit, you still get credit for getting on base, and you would lose win value for being a bad baserunner. It wouldn't just affect your slugging, you got on base, you just made a bad move and tried to get greedy.
