They get a very rough break as in the Dodgers big 8th inning rally, a routine groundout to 1B Jake Cronenworth with maybe a chance for an inning ending double play breaks the webbing of his mitt.    Good luck official scorer deciding if that is a hit or error.

Manny is DH for now, Mike Shildt is the new manager, Severna Park's Jackson Merrill is in CF at age 20, and Dylan Cease is on the ballclub.

That lineup is so interesting.  Jurickson Profar -- former MLB SS -- in LF.  Jackson Merrill, a SS throughout his high school career, in CF.   Former MLB shortstop Fernando Tatis in RF.  Hae Song Kim at shortstop.   Former major league shorstop Xander Bogaerts at 2nd.   Cronenworth, who has played SS quite a bit in the majors, at 1B.   And Manny, a former major league shortstop, was at DH today but I'm sure will play a lot of 3rd.

I don't know if Jackson Merrill played 12th grade at Severna Park, but if he did it is incredibly cool today there's probably some 2021 9th grader practicing for his senior year watching the guy who was a senior when he was a freshman in the major leagues.

Jackson Merrill walk off HR off one Mr. Mason Miller this afternoon.

He became the youngest player ever to hit multiple HRs in a game where one was a walkoff.  21 years, 54 days old.

Previous record held by Delmon Young at 21y 245d.

I was coming here to put it in the statistical oddiies thread but since you already had it in the Padre thread.

For those who aren't aware, he's a Maryland native (Severna Park HS).

Manny a 2 HR game to move into a share of the SDP franchise HR lead.    That's both a commentary on that club never having a real HR hitter, and also cool how big a mark he's made in Adam Jones' hometown.

He will probably be the 7th or 8th 3B to pass 3.0 fWAR MLB wide this season, despite Fangraphs defensive numbers having his defense poor.    This is the season he was limited to DH the first month grinding his way back from injury and posting up like Adam and Buck showed him how to do.

Like Aaron Judge and Bryce Harper he's never had that dogpile yet, but is still one of the world's best and pushing for it at an advanced baseball age.

Thanks for continuing to bring it in your own inimitable way!  Always enjoy your takes on the Camden scene with your unique flair.  You’re the E. E. Cummings of the OH, IMHO.

While the Orioles cannot take a division lead first series this week, Manny's Padres can.

King-Knack, Cease-Flaherty and Musgrove-Buehler the scheduled starters at Dodger Stadium.

If you give Manny a grace for playing at less than full capability early (speculatively similar to Adley now, but We Don't Talk About Bruno), since his OPS bottomed out at .611 on May 17th, he's hitting 300/346/536.

Jackson Merrill watching him growing up locally fun in the same spirit as Elias watching Mussina back in that day.

    • I have two tickets to Game 1 of the WC which I cannot use due to work travel.  Section 352, row 4, seats 9 & 10.  Asking $70 total for the two.  Paid $205 to the Orioles as a season plan member.   PM me if interested.  Paypal preferred.
    • Can't make game 1. I'll be at game 2...last time I was at a playoff game at Camden, we beat Scherzer and the Tigers.
    • He should be taking fly balls all winter.
    • That was a lot of fun. Felt like there are certain elite seasons that had to be part of the team, and then tried to build from there.  Outfield depth is a little shaky, as is the rotation — though the latter is probably mostly unavoidable. The lineup would rake and the bullpen would shove, so pretty happy with this combination.   C 2022 Adley Rutschman (5.4 rWAR) 1B: 1998 Rafael Palmeiro (6.3) 2B: 2005 Brian Roberts (7.3) 3B: 2015 Manny Machado (7.5) SS: 2024 Gunnar Henderson (8.9) LF: 1999 Brady Anderson (5.9) CF: 2021 Cedric Mullins (5.9) RF: 2008 Nick Markakis (7.4) DH: 2013 Chris Davis (7.1) Bench: 2003 Melvin Mora (4.7) Bench: 2006 Miguel Tejada (4.5) Bench: 2011 Matt Wieters (5.2) Bench: 2001 Jeff Conine (2.9)   SP: 2000 Mike Mussina (5.7) SP: 2007 Erik Bedard (5.7) SP: 2019 John Means (4.4) SP: 2002 Rodrigo Lopez (3.7) SP: 2010 Jeremy Guthrie (4.5) RP: 2016 Zach Britton (4.1) RP: 2023 Felix Bautista (3.0) RP: 2004 B.J. • Gray started off well  but then ran out of steam a bit. He's not getting any younger. I was interested in him last year but I think the Cardinals overpaid and his contract only gets worse.
    • A bit. Nothing life changing, but the format seems…Cleaner.
