Not really kicking the can.  He can work on it in the minors.  They are in win now territory.

I don’t think starting Holliday against RHP and easing him against LHP would cost the Orioles any wins.

I like many am disappointed in the decision to send Holliday back/down to AAA. However, I am confident in the kid's ability/potential.

He will go down to Norfolk and crush it and will eventually force Elias' hand. Another factor in the decision for Holliday's promotion will be Urias. If he hits like he did last year, I don't think the Orioles will roll with him as starter for too long. But you never know, stranger things have happened including that time we stuck with Odor or that time we stuck with Frazier when it was obvious that we had more talented players at AAA.

I just hope that our new ownership allows our franchise to operate with a different paradigm, where being as cheap as possible doesn't always have to rule every decision. Sometimes you can be a penny wise yet a pound foolish, i.e. last season's trade deadline decisions.

The thing is, with the current arbitration system, there is nothing that Holliday can do to "force Elias' hand".  Can you think of a single example of it happening?

They can do whatever they want and at the end of the day the Arbitrator will side with the team.

I meant force his hand by playing so well that it becomes obvious to Elias/Sig and everyone that he would be an upgrade over Urias.

I don’t think that they promoted Holliday with such aggressiveness last season (allowing him to make the rare jump of 4 levels) only to leave him at AAA for most or all of this season. That kind of defies logic.

I get what you are saying but so what if he does?

A couple internet articles get written?

All I can hope for is that under the new ownership regime, the organization won’t be so tone deaf.

It’s silly to say reps in AAA vs lefties are worthless.

Good thing I didn't say that.

But they aren't going to eliminate the need for an adjustment period.

You can only improve so much facing inferior competition.

Easing him in will stunt development.  He needs reps.

Ha.  Is he going to develop faster in the majors or in AAA?   He can hit ML pitching and he’s not helpless against LHP.  He’ll be getting plenty of reps.  Two games against ML LHP is worth 10 against AAA pitchers.

Henderson couldn’t hit LHP or breaking pitches for the first two months last year.  He figured it out.  Holliday will figure it out.

People were also yelling to send Gunnar back down to the minors last year because "he was hurting the team" during that time.

Maybe the Orioles didn't want to risk that happening again and affecting their Major League offense while trying to win a Championship? What's better: Winning as many Major League games as possible as a team, or letting one 20 year old take his lumps from learning on the job when he just as easily could do that more productively in AAA?
