Hot streak started today.  Player of the week next week calling it now.  Most MLB veterans have their little rituals, hokey beliefs, pre game little things they do to get their juices flowing.  If this works for Holliday, great.

Didn't they have a pitcher that would eat rails of powdered donuts on days he pitched? I can't remember now who that was.

Turk Wendel? He did all sorts of crazy stuff.
Gausman ate donuts at LSU on game days, if memory serves correct.

Got a very good jump. I hope it becomes part of his arsenal.

Really?  I actually thought it was a pretty horrible jump haha.  Fortunately Smith just kind of side-armed a lollipop throw to 2nd.

Jackson still struggling offensively.  If Westburg comes back and Urias keeps hitting well, I wonder how the playing time shakes out in the playoffs....

I’ve been happy with Holliday’s defense on this trip so far.  He’s shown some range and seemed more decisive and committed on his throws.

Yep, he looks much more confident and is just playing with athleticism.  It's good to see.

That was a very quick release by Smith.  While the throw wasn’t a bullet by any means, it certainly wasn’t a lollipop either.   I agree with the other poster.  Holliday must have had a good jump.   All in all, Smith got the ball to 2B quickly and accurately.   Probably the reason Smith went with the quick release and sidearm throw is because he saw the jump Holliday got.

    • Quite honestly I don't care anymore. I've thrown in the towel on this season. Whether they are 4, 5 or 6 I'm expecting another sweep anyway.
    • Injuries + prospects not ready + slumping all-stars.
    • Kjerstad had a 1.367 OPS from 6/27-7/7. He had a .507 OPS before and a .533 OPS after. Urias was worth 0 WAR and had a 93 wRC+ as of 7/29. He had 90 good AB’s since then where he had a 167 wRC+.  Slater has been a better hitter, fielder, and base runner than Hays in a third of the playing time. Stowers had a .797 OPS with a .435 BABIP and 35% K rate. Norby had a .594 OPS with 37% K rate.  Westburg was a big loss and Mountcastle is missed (especially against LHP’s) but none of the other guys were major contributors for any extended period of time. They stink right now mostly because literally every regular has been worse the last month than they had been the first 4.5 months, besides Mullins. They legitimately have 1 regular starter that has had a good last 30 days compared to their baseline performance. They are lucky their record in that timeframe hasn’t been worse.
    • The Orioles are like the story of Floyd Collins in the Sand Cave in Kentucky.  He kept digging
    • Posts like this conjure the image of the miner digging down into the earth, he’s getting closer and closer to the treasure of gold and diamonds that we see are just a few feet further down, but the miner gives up before he reaches his just reward.    keep digging. And when you think all is lost, dig with reckless abandon.
    • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Mayo hitting well below .100 (like he had 2 or 3 hits total in two major league stints)?  How is he a solution to replace O'Hearn?  Mayo shouldn't even be in the majors at this point.   He and Holliday are clearly not ready.
    • You just can’t win with an offense this bad. It was an overreaction a month ago when they were getting called embarrassing or pathetic after a bad game. It legitimately might be an understatement at this point.  They have scored 4 runs or less in 19 out of their last 24 games (and 11 of their last 12 games) against teams that aren’t the Rockies or the White Sox. In those 19 games, they have scored 44 total runs (2.32 per game). In two of those games, they scored exactly 5 runs. In another, they scored 10 runs and lost. In another, they had 2 runs going into the 8th. Again, anyone complaining about this offense is underselling it at this point. In total, they have 80 runs in those 24 games (3.33 per game). In their last 8 games overall (including the White Sox), they have scored 15 runs. This offense is completely broken.
