Medical Correction:  CT scans do not show "concussions".  CT scans are used to detect bleeding in or around the brain such as epidural hematoma or subdural hematoma...these would require urgent surgical intervention.

 

He most certainly 100% had a concussion!

Seriously, misleading reporting honestly. He was knocked unconscious for an extended period of time. He has a serious concussion. However, this is best case scenario news, he doesn’t have any other brain damage or neck/spinal injuries and he was promptly released from the hospital. 

It will still take him an extended period of time to recover from this concussion, at least fully. Very hard to know now when he’ll be able to play again, we’ll have to wait and see. Hoping for his health and a swift recovery and no lasting effects.

Maybe this can help get the double first base (with one in foul territory for the runner) implemented, to potentially avoid or minimize the severity of these types of collisions in the future.

Exactly. If you lost consciousness, you have a concussion.

You can have a concussion without any loss of consciousness.  But if you were unconscious for 10 minutes, you REALLY had a concussion. 

I would imagine there is a concussion protocol he will go through before he can be cleared to resume...

Right. I was just saying if you lose consciousness from a blow to the head it's impossible not to have a concussion.

Chace got back on the mound yesterday for the first time since his 1B collision and concussion.  It didn’t go that well, 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K.   But, it’s good to see him back on the field after being carried off on a stretcher 16 days before.

He never went on the IL but they may not have needed the space. He clearly was on concussion protocol after not pitching for 16 days. Very well may have been rusty, but like you said, good to see him back on the mound.
