He did that at least once in the few innings I heard.  Doesn’t bother me if a home announcer does that occasionally to mix things up.

I like the new guy.  No jokes.  No inane stories.  He just described the action and I had no trouble following.   I like Kevin Brown too.  When everyone is making wise cracks that is when it is too much.

A good announcer has a good voice, has something interesting to say, says it well, varies vocabulary to help maintain interest( how many different terms are there for “throw”? Learn them all, decide which ones are most effective and use them ) accurately describes the play on the field, knows the game and its history, and interacts well with colleagues.

None of our announcers, on TV or radio, has all of those qualities, and few have most of those qualities.

Melanie Newman has none of them.
