David Rubenstein 2024

Since we finally have a new owner maybe it's worth having a discussion thread on David Rubenstein's first year stewardship of the Orioles.

Rubenstein posted this tweet tonight hinting at something, but it's cryptic. Some people thinking he's hinting an a contract extension for Gunnar with the desk being placed at SS on the field. I don't think it's that, but who knows.

My guess is it's some video or commercial with Gunnar and maybe Cal Ripken because he's officially back with the Orioles as minority owner.

Right, some corny thing like Cal is still at SS but at a desk or something. Good troll by Rubenstein, though lol.

I thought this was a cool story about Byron Buxton, but Rubenstein also shows how to treat a young fan right, and earn some good PR at the same time. 

After a young fan had an autographed Buxton ball stolen out of the usher's hands that was intended for him, this is what happened the next day. 

When they pulled into the parking lot, they found a direct message waiting for them from the Orioles, instructing them to call a phone number.

On the line was a representative of new Orioles owner David Rubenstein, inviting the family to sit in Rubenstein’s own seats in the front row adjacent to home plate, with a bag of Orioles goodies also waiting for them.

That is awesome. And the kid's name is Camden. How can he not turn out to be an O's fan? 

The thing with the desk on the infield is really weird though.

It was Cal pretending thats where his office is. Rubenstein sent some fans into a frenzy thinking an extension was being signed there.

I think it is definitely Ripken related. It is pretty cool to have an owner who is SM savy or has a SM team to help him.

If we're going to wait a bit on any Henderson, Holliday, or Rutschman extension... I'd like to see Rubenstein make extending Kevin Brown a priority. If for no other reason than to show that this organization will be run differently than the previous regime, and good employees will be rewarded.

Give Roch a giant trophy for his "streak".  Its a lot cheaper than extending Gunnar or Adley.
