Well, here we go again.

in their last ten, the Evil Empire has played 6-4 ball

1-1 vs TB

0-2 vs NY Mets

2-1 vs Boston

3-0 vs Philly( Thanks, Austin!)

Among their upticks are improvements from their pitching, and a blazing start from new 3B Jazz Chisholm. They also added Mark Leiter, who has a 34% K, a 3.2 BB rate and a 50.6% GB rate. So he’s striking you out or getting a ground ball, but not walking you. In July he faced 23 batters, K-ed 14, and allowed neither a run nor a hit.

Overall, the Yankees have apparently stabilized themselves, with guys playing better( in todays defeat of the Phillies, DJ Lemahieu drove in all six runs) and solid additions.

Next up for the Yankees are the Jays, while the Baltimores visit Cleveland.

Next meeting twixt NY and B is the penultimate series of the season.

Heres hoping we won’t need it.

Seeya in ten games!

Yanks sweep in Philadelphia a nice bookend to their season opening sweep in Houston.

Should be a fun race.

Odds of Games 157-159 in the Bronx mattering getting bigger every day.

We are at Minnesota for Games 160-162, and the Twins could be in a hot division race themselves.

The final weekend, nuanced game theory scenarios around if you pitch Aces in the final 1-2 days perhaps rendering them unavailable for ALWC Game 1 or Game 2, at which point your season could be over with the wrong results.

The Yankees schedule this month is crazy easy. LAA, Det, Colorado, Wash.

They also play games against Texas and St Louis and have a tough series vs Cle.

Overall, they have a pretty easy month in terms of winning% of the other team.

Orioles will have work to do.

Yankees update august 16 72-50 T-1

The Yankees went 5-5

2-1 vs Toronto

1-2 vs Anaheim

2-1 vs Texas

0-1 vs White sox

They are in the middle of an easy patch, including two more white sox games(spoiler alert: they won them both)

3 vs Detroit, 3 vs Cleveland 3 vs Colorado and 3 vs the Nats.

they can reasonably be expected to win every series. Luis Gil and Nester Cortes aren’t as solid as earlier in the season but Jazz Chisholm is a fine addition and the team is playing better even though the most recent 10 game stretch doesn’t show it.

The Os still have the tiebreaker but will have to improve if that is going to be meaningful.

    • It's ridiculous Mayo is not getting more opportunities. And when will Hyde pull the plug on Adley batting 2nd? Its not working right now.
    • No Mayo again today, and I don’t like having three LH in a row at 5/6/7. Hyde is begging for a TB lefty reliever to come in and shut us down during a big rally.
    • Elias went into this draft knowing he had young positional depth pretty much set for the next 5 years.   He also knew he would probably have to give up young pitching at the deadline.   We didn’t draft our first pitcher until the 4th round.    If he didn’t change his philosophy this year what makes you think he will in future years? He clearly believes he can replenish the pitching without prioritizing it in the draft.   We will see.
    • I almost never talk about Cano here, but I must say, that last night's 3 batter performance is the very definition of clutch. I wont say more because I know that ANY pitcher can be great one day and horrible the next, but man, what a great job he did.He saved the day, is what he did. And while we are at it how about Kremer's performance coming back from that bruised forearm? Hell, we;'ve had GREAT performances from Kremer, Eflin, Povich, and before his last start, Albert too. Ironically, I haven't seen Burnes be really good in about 5 weeks.
    • I can't remember a reliever we've had who's been as good as Cano who huge segments of the board seem to think is a fringe reliever. It's kind of mind-blowing. What does the guy have to do to get respect from some of you guys?
    • Tony Of course it is valid to question the Orioles pitching  drafting and development. It’s obvious there is a lag in both.    But I think we make too much of it. It’s like criticizing the lack of a WS title.  If that never comes it will certainly be a valid criticism. But in rebuilding completely from the ground up it is clear they focused more on a foundation of player talent.    I think going forward more focus should be seen in this area just as we should rightfully expect more success in the post season.    If drafting stays the exact same for another 5 years he won’t be here imho. I join you and everyone else in hoping to see more pitching success from inhouse. But I am also more than comfortable in where we are today.
    • Lol he took so long rounding the bases the clip just cut off
