Willie Mays remembrances

Just Regular

Recommended Posts

Brian Kenny's show this afternoon had some good ones.

Kenny for today's fans described him like Judge in the box, Kiermaier in CF, and Elly on the bases.

Baserunning he had an Extra Bases taken percentage where Willie was in the low 60's, Frank in the high 50's, and Rickey Henderson in the mid-50's.

Chris Russo had a remembrance that during the 1954 World Series Tris Speaker called him the best he'd ever seen, which reminded me of Lefty Grove's sideline interview about Brooks during the '70 World Series in Baltimore.

I just went through the 1973 World Series box and it looks like no Designated Hitter was used then after its first regular season.    I thought it would have been pretty epic had Mays played in the Negro Leagues and been a designated hitter in the major leagues.    It was pretty epic anyway.

RIP Willie.
