Trade Target - Yimi Garcia

He’s the hot rental arm that should be available currently. He has postseason experience. Experience pitching for the LAD and HOU. Experience pitching in the AL East. He’s been flat out nasty when we’ve faced him this year.

He could be this year’s Andrew Miller. He’s at least a Coloumbe replacement, with potential to be deployed like Miller was in 2014. Which could be argued was just as valuable as Britton once acquired in 2014.

He's on the IL with a sore elbow. The O's have a pretty decent amount of those already.

    • Beg to differ. Bradish influences every fifth game; Bautista influences almost every game, because he either will pitch, or could pitch, unless the game isn’t close, which would happen enough to give him the necessary time off.
    • You didn’t answer my question. Portes 21 in high A Chace 20 in high A Young 25 in AAA Brnovich 26 in AA   Which ones are you protecting?
    • Sometime over the weekend we will probably see @Frobby's next 27-game increment report.      Last year I believe Gunnar increased his rWAR in all nine 18-game segments surveyed.     I think I joked about 27 games ago that if he continued that pattern in June, he'd be halfway to a 12-win season, and unless he goes 0-for-11 tonight or something like that we are just about there. Watching players practice their mastery of the game, it did feel to me like signal not noise an upward arc that steady in a player's first full season.    I would guess if you looked at all ~700 full time big leaguers last year, there would be 0, 1 or 2 others with that pattern.    As players oscillate around their true talent, increases in 8-9 consecutive, decently sized measuring periods would be ~500 to 1 against occurring randomly. It has to level off somewhere, but holy cow where? Since Jackie, only Bonds has 12-win seasons.
    • Suarez has below average stuff, below average K and BB rates, and average chase and whiff rates. I think it would be tough to see him as a high leverage arm unless the stuff ticks up in relief, which it didn’t earlier this season. I think he’s better suited as the long relief option.
    • I might be higher on Brnovich more than others.  I like his K/9 K/IP rate.  His WHIP has always been low too.  More K's than IP.  Doesn't have a bunch of baserunners.  He turns 27 shortly.  He's sort of a RH Zimmerman.  I think you protect a guy like that because he can be a up/down guy for 3 years, but also is the type of arm that would get picked in the Rule 5. We always way overestimate who would get picked in the rule 5.  IF things stay the same with Brnovich and he sniffs AAA this year, then I say in his case that we protect him.  Losing the three SP to TJ helps his case.
    • I was going to post something like this. I strongly disagree with the concept of “closer” but we need some reliable guys who can come in the throw a clean inning. I don’t care who throws the ninth, or the eighth or the seventh, and I don’t think it should be anyone in particular. I just want him to hit the mound, throw a few uneventful pitches, and then leave the mound with nothing changed except increased anguish in the opposing dugout. And we need a starter, a good one. I wonder if Mike is looking in Korea or Japan or Mexico for someone far from the madding crowd to come be Suarez 2.0 for a while.
    • Suárez, for me, in the bullpen can profile as a high leverage arm. With McDermott there's certainly a hope that we call him up August or September and we see a high leverage arm. There are solutions in house. We probably need to trade for one pitcher more, or perhaps two, but I would probably go with the same market approach as we did last season with Flaherty and Fuji, working around the fringes and giving up more expendable prospects / players like Norby, Bradfield Jr., Horvath, Urias, Mateo, Hays, Mountcastle, etc. Another Flaherty type for this season would do us well.
