It's a tradition at this point for the O's. Like most traditions, it's stupid, has no logical reason to exist, and just represents humanity's fear of change and preference for the familiar.

Having said that, I find the hot dog race to be hilarious, enjoyable, and my mom always yells "KETCHUP!" She even has the shirt. It's funny to see her get into something so trivial. It doesn't have to make logical sense, just like "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" or the crabs with the baseball. It's stupid and I don't care, I still love it.
