Slater is back to having a defined role here. He was primarily a platoon RHH with the Giants. A winning team. Sometimes players perform better with a clear role and they know when they’re going to play. 

Slater has an .800+ OPS with us.

Slater has ended up a good addition as the McKenna on this team. Having that nice game against a righty yesterday was nice, but he's here to hot against lefties and he's done well with that overall. 

Defensively he's solid in all three spots which is a rarity.

He's been a good addition and better than I expected.

Hays is 7 for 16 vs lefties since the trade.  That is a .438 avg and a 1.126 OPS vs lefties.   

The O's needed pitching and traded Hays to get it.   That does mean that Hays is not a good player.

I wonder if the O's saw something or if his .288 OPS July was just random noise and we got lucky. Better version of McKenna and probably more valuable than Norby net of defense as long as he hits at a reasonable level.
