Cano is the best reliever in this sorry bullpen, but in most contending teams, he wouldn't be pitching with a lead late.

That is nonsense.  He has 27 holds and 5 saves.  He is not a closer but he is a good 7th or 8th inning pitcher.

Last years pen.
Bautista 1.48 era
Wells 3.64 ERA
Cano 2.11 era
Baummann 3.76 era

Perez 3.54 era

Coloume 2.81 era

Baker 3.60era

Webb 3.27 era

Hall 3.26 era

what a disaster not one guy with Era over 3.76.   Do you actually watch this team or just stay on message boards complaining and not know anything?

Yeah, there’s no question at all that last year’s bullpen was better.

2024: 4.14 ERA, 2.66 SO/W

2023: 3.55 ERA, 2.90 SO/W

ERA only tells part of the story with relievers and I find it to somewhat misleading.   A reliever can allow every inherited runner he gets to score and there’s no impact on his ERA.  I’ve never put much stock in ERA for a reliever, especially in this era where so many relievers pitch one inning or less.

Who else is he supposed to place in those situations, Kimbrel?  lol

There are lots of eighth inning guys or closers.  Cano tends to be brought in whatever inning has the middle of the order or when it looks like everything is going south.  Most relievers are not used like that.

Cano's 2024 WHIP: 1.34

Cleveland Bullpen for comparison.

Clase: 0.66

Gaddis: 0.74

Smith: 0.92

Herrin: 0.98

Morgan: 0.98

Sandlin: 1.13

Avila: 1.26

Barlow: 1.41

Cano's WHIP is worse than every Cleveland reliever but one. Do you still think it's nonsense?

Only if we end up tied with the Yankees. We play them in the penultimate series and finish against the twins. That will be six very important games for every team.

No this gives us the tiebreaker on the Red Sox so they have to finish with a better record then us or they will be watching from couch.  If we finish tied with 91 wins we go they don’t.  I don’t think it willl matter really because Boston pen just not good enough to go on a run and our offense to good to falter too bad down stretch but still good to have tiebreakers in your back pocket.  If we win 1 more vs Yanks we have that tie breaker too.
