Three Consecutive Winning Seasons

The Orioles clinched their 3rd straight winning season tonight.   That ties the 3rd longest streak of winning seasons in team history:

1. 18 straight winning seasons (1968-1985)
2. 4 straight winning seasons (1963-1966)
3. 3 straight winning seasons (1992-1994, 2012-2014, and 2022-2024 [CURRENT])

I don't see this team having a losing season next year. So they will be at least tied for second place. I think they will hold second place by themselves in two years, but catching up with the top of the list is likely impossible in this day and age.

I forgot that the team didn’t finish above .500 in 2015.

This organization is far better today than it was during that 2012 - 2016 run, and that was a fun run.

That was my first full year of following the Orioles.  It was a snakebit team, with lots of injuries and down years.   Frank Robinson was on his way to a possible second consecutive Triple Crown when he got injured breaking up a DP, and Carl Yastrzemski won the Triple Crown instead.   I hated Yaz for more than a decade because of that, before I finally let it go.

1969 is the first recollection that I have. It's funny how that run has influenced my perception of the O's. I still think of them as that powerhouse team even when they are playing poorly. But to think that other than that their longest streak was 4 years is shocking to me. My three sons and I have very different fan experiences with the O's.

After Palmer's excellent 1966 season, he only made 9 starts for 49 innings in 1967. And then missed all of 1968. And based on Baseball Reference, McNally, Barber and the entire pitching staff just weren't up to 1967 standards.
