This is crazy. People here on the Hangout can start a thread about some insane stuff, but 6 pages on wether or not you should pick up GS does not make sense. This team is going nowhere fast, and a move like this makes no sense.

I hope at some point the Baltimore organization will be better than this. Every player released from another team does not automatically fit into this team.

Question: if he wore a regular brimmed ball cap and there never was the "flat breezy" thing, would everyone on OH be so ready to have Geroge back?

Yeah! I liked his arm. I liked his head. Hell, the flat breezy was part of his attitude.

Yes. He pitched well for us.

Past tense. He pitch-ed well for us. Besides I find the scales by which our Oriole players are judged to be a wee bit scewed around here. ;)

Now as for present day, his pitching... whole 'nother story.

Okay, guys. When a guy is placed on outright waivers, once he clears, he can choose whether to accept his assignment to AAA or he can elect to become a free agent.

So, we wait until he clears and then attempt to sign him to a minor league contract or the ML minimum. That way, LA is responsible for the $2M+ he has remaining.

Since there is like 5 different kind of waivers, I hope your are right. This would be the best scenario and probably is probably the most likely way it happens.

If we could get something for Ohman and replace him with Sherill I don't think it's insane. This team isn't winning enough to be contenders, so the talent is still a net positive. Also, think back to the Bradford trade when many said that AM traded to make the major league team weaker to improve draft status. AM gets talent for Ohman, brings back a fan favorite and gets a higher draft pick or lightning in a bottle. I don't see him doing it for 2 million, but maybe trying some sort of deal (if the Dodgers are willing).

You are dreaming. It's not like Sherrill is a little bit off here. He's only striking out 5.0 batters a game. He's walking 7.3 batters a game. He's allowing 12.8 hits per game. His WHIP is 2.24. His velocity is down 3 mph. He isn't using his curve. Something's terribly, terribly wrong. You don't jettison a half-decent LOOGY (Ohman is at least that, if not more) for a guy who is pitching like he doesn't have a clue, even if he has a good history with your team.

We might as well bring Jamie Walker back while we're at it. He had a better K/9, lower BB/9, better WHIP and better ERA each of his last two years here than Sherrill does now.

But...but...

Emotional context! Memories! Sentimentality! C'mon, man!

The reality:

If they want to claim him and outright him to Norfolk, there's always a chance that he could get it back together and have an Ohman-esque year. Putting him right on the 25 man roster would be a mistake, IMO.

Not sure how effective James Ross Walker would be, but at least he could talk about how the Orioles were MF'ed by the media :laughlol:

Forget it. If Sherrill chooses to become a free agent, he forfeits the remaining salary owed to him by the Dodgers. No way is he going to do that.
